Best way to record bike rides with Fitbit Charge HR and Strava

So I am new to Fitbit but have been using Strava for a good while.

I have used the Strava iPhone app to record rides and GPS and Segment analysis it provides is great. I have never invested in a Strava compatible HR monitor.

I now have a Fitbit HR and on a couple of rides recently have used this to record my HR inparallel to recording the ride on Strava.

But, even with Strave to Fitbit syncing enabled, this leaves me with a "workout" in Fitbit that shows HR against time and a ride in Strava that shows GPS, segments and Altitude.

Given the kit I have, what is the best way to get a consolidated view of all of this? Should I just record the ride in Strava and let the sync push it into Fitbit? If I do this, will Fitbit overlay the HR data?

The Fitbit iOS app does not have a "Track Ride" option, only supporting Walk, Hike and Run.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Are you starting a workout on  your charge hr by holding down the button until it vibrates?  I typically only do this when I go out on my rides.  I don't use the app to track the workout.  Frankly, I don't know why fitbit doesn't work this into the android app to be able to record a ride with heart rate using the GPS capability of the phone.  There's no way I'm buying a Surge.. its way too big.

So I had been both starting Strava on my iPhone and starting the Excercise Record function on the Charge HR (by holding the button down until it vibrates). What this gives me is a "workout" in Fitbit that has HR data and a Ride in Strava that has GPS data. The 2 are not merged in any way.

To be fair I have not tried just using Strava to record a Ride to see if and how it is pushed through to FitBit. I have a suspicion this might be a good thing to try.

(BTW - Agree on the Surge - It is a Watch)
