Hi all,
So frustrated- had a Charge hr originally and heart rate was slowly been climbing by 1 beat every few days
Last weekend i bought a Charge 2- its doing the same thing!
In all honesty I'm starting to get worried incase I have some kinda heart issue. My cardio fitness is poor, i am overweight BUT my normal heart rate is average. P.s had a chest xray, ecg, bloods- all fine! Just had a 24 hour ecg currently awaiting results!
Has anyone else had this issue? I read elsewhere someone said it took 2 weeks for the device to 'level out
Thanks!!!

There are many things that can cause the resting heart rate to increase. It's amazing what they can find these days with blood and urine tests.
Don't be surprised if your doctor orders a large number of tests. Each one addresses a different organ in the body.
Anyone who follows the Standard American Diet has gross evidence, meaning you can see it without a microscope, of heart disease by the time they are 10 years old. It's getting worse... now they are discovering pre-natal heart disease. If you are eating like your neighbors, you have heart disease. Don't panic. It's arrestable and reversible in almost all people.
If a person has heart disease, they have some stage of all of what are called degenerative diseases or diseases of old age. These all have the same cause and the same way of eating arrests or cures most of them.
I suggest binge reading this book and following the way of eating regardless of the results of your tests:
Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease: The Revolutionary, Scientifically Proven, Nutrition-Based Cure
by Caldwell B. Esselstyn Jr. M.D.

I don't like to hide the fact that the way of eating doesn't include animal products. Here it is.
1. No animal products of any kind.
2. No oils like olive oil, etc.
3. No refined foods.
4. No food additives.
So, what can you eat? Replace meat with starches like potatoes, oatmeal, rice, sweet potatoes, corn, quinoa, couscous, whole grain bread you make yourself. Eat lots of cruciferous and green leaf vegetables and fresh fruits.
Don't worry about your weight. You can eat as much as you need to satisfy your appetite and you will lose weight. The weight loss will stop when you reach your optimum weight.
I suggest binge reading the book and quickly starting to eat this way. If you do, you can start reversing some of the causes of a heart attack with the first meal. You can become heart attack proof in three weeks. You will also arrest or cure all dysfunctional diet diseases because they have the same cause.
Unfortunately, change is difficult without support from a real human in person. You can join Weight Watchers and follow their vegan diet while still avoiding oils.
Once you get mixed up in the medical system, you are associating with people who don't treat causes. They have a pill for everything to treat symptoms. These drugs have many serious side effects that they play down.
Good luck to you. I won't debate anyone who can't prove their diet recommendations reverse heart disease in virtually 100% of the cases.

Hi @Jawwdan91,
It does take a little while for the Fitbit to have enough heart rate data to give a good calculation for average resting heart rate.
Based on your assessment of your cardio fitness as "poor", I would say the 60bpm that it started with was probably too low. I would have expected it to be around 10+ bpm higher than that. So the higher number may be closer to accurate than the low number.
I would give it another week or two and see if it levels off. Is it literally climbing every day? Or does it level off or drop occasionally? Are you feeling exhausted or stressed? If you're feeling well, I wouldn't be too worried. But it's great you are keeping your doctor in the loop on this.
So what can you do about your cardio fitness level? I would definitely recommend going on walks, then gradually extended the time of the walk, then gradually increasing the speed/pace. The Charge 2 will give you an estimated range for your Cardio Fitness Score, which you can use over time to track your progress. Best of luck.

I agree with @WavyDavey. I think it's great you are having tests, just in case, but I think it's probably just the normal variation in the heartrate. Mine changes +/- 15 pretty regularly. I worry when it goes up, but then it goes back down again, so I think it's other factors that cause the change. I've heard heat will do it - if it's hotter weather, you're resting heart rate will be higher. It could also be how well/how much you are sleeping. Sometimes I think my variation is due to meds I take. So I wouldn't worry too much. Let the dr do his tests, then you'll know you are fine and you can start slowly improving your cardio fitness.
Good luck!

I'll add my two sense, over a short period I would not worry, if concearned, it would be better to ask your doctor, that was a good step. Asking your fellow untrained Fitbit user is usually not the best idea, we are not aware of your situation.
What can cause an increase in resting heart rate, let's just mention the common non life threatening ones
Lack of sleep
Over training
Worrying, ??
Recovering from an injury or being sick.
