@annie75Fitbit is a modern pedometer and works on steps and speed. For cardio etc you have to log a manual activity which will overwrite the calories burned and maintain any steps. This link will help
It's good to see you here and if you need more explanation please post again.

Not a silly question Annie....I wonder the same thing. I have searched to make sure some of the work out DVDs I do are recorded accurately-like Biggest Loser DVDs being circuit or interval training. I do manually add TaeBo since it isn't in the list to pick from and I do the tap thing on my flex when I do yoga to get a better indication of calories burned. My concern is that prior to using my Fitbit Flex, I logged everything into my Fitness Pal and the calories burned for TaeBo and Zumba were significantly higher then they are with my Fitbit. I have to believe that this is more accurate, but am having a hard time determining if I am logging activities appropriately. I want to be "in the zone" to be able to lose weight. Sorry, I don't think I am being much help, but I do a lot of internet searching with little resolution.

Go check it out. Again - only non-step based exercise needs to be manually logged - swimming should be obvious, rowing, biking, elliptical, strength training, ect.
Go to your Log - Activities section and type in an exercise. Some asks for details to be more exactly with calorie burn.
So look ahead of time what you'll need to know.
Like if you rode a bike, you'll need to know duration (which is everything) and distance in that time. MPH can now be calculated, and with your weight - calories.
The Fitbit, really vast majority of HR trackers, is intended for better accuracy on the 23 other hours of the day - not the 1 hr you workout.

FitBit should really put that statement in the literature. That makes so much sense.
Started with a Flex. Now have ChargeHR.
