In order to be able to take part in challenges, you need some friends first. Here is how to find some.
Once you have a few friends, you can either wait for them to invite you to challenges, or create challenges of your own and invite them.
My advice is to look for friends who are more or less in the same "league" as you, in terms of step count. If your average daily step count is 5k, don’t pick up people who average 25k (or vice-versa).

You can also check out the activity board here in the community. It is the last pick in the drop down under community. There are so many to choose from, number of steps, goals, age, location, etc. The more active groups are always running challenges.
