Confused

Sorry, I'm new. So, I have total steps and go for a walk. If I log the walk as active or exercise, then I lose those steps in my total? is that right? I have a fitbit one.

You should not log the walk when the Fitbit already did. Thats why you are losing steps.

Only log non step based activites like swiming, yoga, weights ETC.

I alway use the Start/Stop Function when I go for a walk. Its great to see the info for just that walk

The Manual is here and it will help you undersatnd it better

Don't the steps stay when you manually log activity?

I log my workouts because it's a combination of running and walking, so my calorie counts change and maybe the miles walked, but not the steps.  I thought the only way to void steps was to log the time as driving in a car.

That said, if the walking and running doesn't match up with reality, the best thing you can do is to make sure your stride is set up correctly.  I've got mine matched up so it's really close to what GPS tells me now.  But it wasn't always that way.

@Raviv No there have been many reports of losing steps or even adding them when they do both

When you manually log walking or running, it's assumed you got the distance correct, so it's divided by your stride length measurements and steps is calculated from that.

So all 3 stats are replaced.

Same thing happens when you use the app feature to use phone GPS to log a workout. Usually people complain the steps drop.

And those steps aren't counted for challenges or such - since it would be easy to cheat that way.

But people still cheat themselves by doing such things - set small stride lengths, manually log walking and running, and I guess enjoy a high step count on top of your friends list.

Since I do Jog/Walk intervals to just lesson stress of jogging, I made my own workout entry for it.

That does NOT do the above, but you can correct distance and calorie burn (if desired), and steps remains.
