I have FitStar and I really like it. A lot. After they gather some basic data about you and your fitness level, they give you a test. It's a group of exercises, and after each one you tell them how many you completed and whether it was easy, ok, or brutal. From then on, each session collects the same information, so following sessions can be tailored automatically to keep you increasing your fitness level. Very clever, and an excellent implementation of tailoring repetitive action to individual profiles.

I'm running the iOS version on my iPad and it's great. It should work fine on the phone, but I don't know that for sure.
Also, they have an unpaid membership that gives you two personalized workouts a week, plus some unlimited sessions called "FreeStyle."
So you can try it out for free, then subscribe if it works for you, so you get unlimited personalized sessions.

This link to the FitStar page at the Fitbit Store will explain it, as well as show you some screen shots.
For me, the personalization of the workouts is key. I was in very poor shape when I started FitStar, and they even managed to create workouts for me that didn't have me convinced I should just give up. OTOH, I understand the personalization does a good job for training all across the fitness spectrum.
Add that the personalization is done by some pretty clever tech that's not immediately apparent, and it's even more fun.
Even better, you can check it out for free, and even get a couple of customized workouts free each week even if you don't pay the $40 annual fee. Since I wanted to work out on my schedule, $40 for a year of what's essentially personal training seemed like a no-brainer.
Highly recommended, IMO.

It's not really a gym tool at all. All the workouts are based on body weight, so all you need is a floor mat and some decent shoes. I'm using it instead of a gym membership; at $40 a year it's a bunch cheaper, and I can do it on my schedule without a drive to and from the gym.
