DIstance Capture Change?

When there is no GPS data, the distance is calculated based on steps x stride length.

Q1: Does Fitbit differentiate between runjing and walking workouts (including background steps). If the same stride lenghts is used for all, then this is no accurate?

Q2: Has there been a change recently in the formula. I noticed now the distance from non-GPS data is far more generous than it used to be in previous years. Now I get 30km for 30,000 steps. Which is ridiculous distance for background steps.

Have you guys noticed such change in the distance? I was looking for API release notes of Fitbit but they do not seem to have any publicly available?

Cheers
