Difference in tracked distance and pace

I have a charge2 and my partner has a blaze. After going on a walk together which we both tracked, there are big differences in the results. Mine says we did 6.6miles at an average pace of 20.20 minutes. His says he did 7.1 miles at an average pace of 17.54 minutes.

How is this possible? I get that steps would be different but not distance and pace

Unless you both used linked GPS tracking, distance (and pace) are estimated from number of steps and stride length. Default stride length is about 0.42 times height, but is only an estimate. Not at all unusual for step x stride based distance estimates to vary by 10% or more.

If you are using linked GPS, you can check the accuracy with google maps pedometer, https://www.gmap-pedometer.com/

When you say "tracked", are you saying you both had your phones with you and were using Connected GPS, or are you saying you tracked your walks using just your Fitbits?  I ask because distance as calculated on stride length will virtually never be correct.  Why?  Because stride length is just a guess; walking fast will usually have a longer stride length versus walking slowly; similarly, walking uphill will typically yield a shorter stride than walking downhill.  Then there is the surface issue, smoother surfaces typically yield a longer stride versus trails or other more irregular surfaces.
