Did you mean:

Doc, I'm feeling lethargic

I went to my Dr. and told him I'm feeling lethargic.  He asked me to explain, I told him I'm not very alert, I'm feeling fatigued, I have low energy and feel sluggish.  Rather than do a complete physical exam looking for the various causes of lethergy: Flu, Stomach virus,CO poisoning,Hyperthyroidism Hypothyroidism, Hydrocephalus, Kidney failure, Meningitis, Pituitary disease, Poor nutrition, Sleep apnea,Stroke,TBI,fever, Depression, he tells me to go home and not to eat for 6 days, and only drink water.   I ask him why? he tells me I'm full of excrement. I respond to him by telling him He's full of excrement and look for a new Doctor.Unfortunately, perception is reality, and if a person perceives after a 6 day fast, they have more energy because they have rid their body of waste material, then they believe it.  I just hope this person is not advocating that anyone that feels fatigued, has low energy with sluggishness, go on a 6 day fast while only drinking water, will make them feel better.

I know you disapprove of (intermittent) fasting, but why dismiss it picking up a *6*-day fast? I haven’t seen anyone advocating fasting for six days and drinking only water during that time. Most fasting protocols out there prescribe fasting for less than 24 hours. Everybody is fasting anyway: when you have dinner at 7pm and breakfast the next morning at 7am, you have been fasting for 12 hours. No big deal. If you skip breakfast and don’t eat until lunch time, you are fasting a little bit longer. No big deal either. How you split your calories within a 24 hours period  (1 big meal, 6-8 smaller "body builder" type of means or anything in-between) is up to you. And most people shouldn’t need to ask their doctor’s permission for eating 2 meals a day instead of 4 (or vice-versa).

One poster stated she went on a 6 day fast, water only before Christmas and a 3 day fast after New Year.  She was feeling lethargic and needed to get rid of her waste material.  She felt great afterwards.  I only wish I was making this up, but I'm not.  Go back and look at past postings relating to fasting, I'm sure you will find it.

My nephew, a religious man, fasts regularly. He told me never plan to fast,  but to start the fast on one of those days when you wake up and just don't feel like eating. He said take that and just keep on with it. He drinks fluids while fasting though and says it helps. After 30 days he said you start to act a little weird, crying, laughing hysterically, etc.

@Ponystar: what religion does your nephew practice? If he’s a muslim, the Ramadan indeed lasts for about 30 days. However, fasting for 30 days doesn’t mean not eating anything during that period. It’s not eating from dawn to sunset, in other words some form of intermittent fasting. Not eating for 30 days is not fasting, it’s starting a hunger strike.

Though I regular fast, intermittent fasting and prolong water fasting to 2-5 consecutive days once a month, I find your doctor’s prescription without testing very reckless. If my conventional doctor told me that, I would assume he wasn’t being serious and that he was implying what Ponystar said.

Doing a 6 day fast, without consultation, is very long period for someone that has never fasted more than 24 hours.

Btw, I think my primary doctor and your doctor is full of excrements too. Mine needs to stop watching Dr.Oz.

MY story was just a joke, commenting on the women that posted she did a 6 day fast with water only because she felt lethargic and then followed it with a 3 day fast with water only so she could get rid of her waste material.  After she felt great.  I no longer post my comments on IF because alot of people felt I was negative.  All I can say is that perception is reality, and if she felt alot better after a 6 and a 3 day fast with water only, more power to her. I maintain that what she did borders on insane and I can only hope no follows her advice.  I would advise you to consult your Dr. and tell him what you are doing, maybe he can tell you what you are actually doing to you body.  a 2-5 day fast is not much different than a 6 day fast.  This is my last and final posting on IF, because I do not believe it is healthy.  Signing Off

I think everyone should stop watching Dr. Oz.  I once admired the man until he became a shill for all these miracle supplements that promise to burn fat with little or nor exercise.  I would like to travel to all these 3rd world countries where these herbs are found to see how many inhabititants are obese!

Daddy, have you told your Dr. that once a month you fast for 2-5 consecutive days?  Maybe after one of your 5 day fasts you should see your Dr and have some lab work done so your Dr. and YOU can see what a 5 day fast with only water does to your body.
