FYI July 2020 — Step Challenge and Photo Scavenger Hunt

Just a little For Your Information that we are halfway through 2020, and it is time to sign up for another monthly challenge. And a reminder that if you happen to see this for the first time mid-month, jump on in; there is no need to wait for another challenge to start next month.

                                     

How It Works

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to encourage you to set and hit your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

 

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

 

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

 

Suggested Posting Format    
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

The theme this month is COVID-19 Related.  Is your area opening up? Or shutting back down?  What does that look like. In the US we are seeing spikes in the South and West and downward trends in the Northeast.  But that will probably change as ‘opening up’ seems to put the brakes on ‘downward trend.’

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week

 

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

The heat of summer has set in.  The humidity is so bad that my hair is standing up on end.  But hopefully I can get pictures for the scavenger hunt today; I'm going to the grocery store. 😱

Until I come up with a more permanent fix I'll stick to my goals of 8,000 steps per day and attempt to get at least 12 of 14 hours active with a minimum of 250 steps per hour.

Saw a new specialist, going to have the ablation on July 15. Supposed to be a permanent fix. Should be off all these drugs 6 weeks after the procedure.

Fireworks started early and still going on. Hope I can go to sleep soon. Hubby is a hermit this weekend. Think I'm going to go somewhere with out him tomorrow. . We had plans Friday and then he called them off to be a hermit.😐🤔

In Baltimore we will be going to limit indoor seating for restaurants next week, but we've been really expanding outdoor seating over the past couple of weeks. 

 

The second picture is of the six foot markers outside my gym. They opened about two weeks ago with 25% capacity. To get in, you had to reserve a 1.5 hour block ahead of time (no walk in), and the closed for 15 minutes between block to clean the place ... kind of like going to the movies (back when we all could go to the movies). Anyway, there was a bit of a line -- 5 or 6 people --  before the beginning of each exercise block so they added social distancing markers.

The humidity has been overly oppressive but I was able to get a hike in on Saturday: a little over 6 miles, equivalent of 42 flights of stairs. Woohoo!  

 

On the plus side, I also got a new bike pump so I can reinflate my bike tires.  😰I'm a little nervous about trying to bike on my road because of the hills, but I also do not have a way to get it to a park yet for flat land.  Any tips?
