FYI July 2020 — Step Challenge and Photo Scavenger Hunt

Just a little For Your Information that we are halfway through 2020, and it is time to sign up for another monthly challenge. And a reminder that if you happen to see this for the first time mid-month, jump on in; there is no need to wait for another challenge to start next month.

                                     

How It Works

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to encourage you to set and hit your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

 

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

 

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

 

Suggested Posting Format    
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

The theme this month is COVID-19 Related.  Is your area opening up? Or shutting back down?  What does that look like. In the US we are seeing spikes in the South and West and downward trends in the Northeast.  But that will probably change as ‘opening up’ seems to put the brakes on ‘downward trend.’

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week

 

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

@WendyB  Definitely!  I've been using the new food scale over the weekend, and it's so easy!  Definitely worth it!  So simple to use, and read the output!

Thanks Jotex, Today is day 5 out of hospital and I feel much, much better!
Had enough energy to water and do some weeding in the garden for two hours.

It's been too hot here for the past week to walk, same forecast for the
coming 2 weeks. Temps in mid 90s with humidity. Char & I take a short walk
at 7:30 each morning.

40 Jumping Jacks: 10/15 days

Eat 1 piece of fruit: 9/15days

Lose 2.2 kg (from 65.2kg 1.7): -8.kg/-2.2 kg*

I forgot to say that I decided to take advantage of a reduced painful knee to get some much needed cleaning done and bring in lavender from outside where it’s drying under the covered patio. It’s supposed to rain tomorrow and for several days (I hope so!) and want the lavender inside (cut last week) so it will continue drying out.
So far, so good with the knee pain — at least the house is clean. Also, I picked some ripe strawberries 🍓 in my strawberry pot. Yum!

I was hoping to get to my step goal today, not just close to it, but I think it may have to be a rest day.  Turns out I have a nest of ground hornets or wasps in my yard.  I found it the hard way yesterday.  My calf itches so much I can't sleep peacefully! 😭

Had to go out after dinner and our evening TV to finish up my steps.  I was on track to finish before dinner, but a crazy lightning storm came through. Fortunately, we didn’t lose power.
