Fitbit 2 counting steps while on treadmill

My Fitbit 2 does not count steps while on treadmill and I do not hang on to the rails. What can I do so it will count my steps?

It needs to see your arms swinging are they? Or just held down by your side?

Also the steps will not be accurate as your stride is different on the treadmill than it is outside.

but your fitbit is counting steps everywhere else you are walking? as long as your arms are moving, your fitbit doesn't know where you are walking so it should be counting steps. I actually get a pretty OK step count even holding on during a really steep incline or on the elliptical. It isn't completely accurate, but still there. Try walking with your arms moving like they would be if you were walking outside and see if it makes a difference. You may also want to make sure that it is counting steps normally treadmill aside. If not, you may want to reset your tracker..
