Fitbit doesn't recognize if you are running or walking with burnt calories

It doesn't matter if you walk or run 10 miles, the amount of burned calores will be the same.

It shouldn't be like that. You almost burn like twice as much when you run.

It seems very basic stuff, your body consumes much more oxygen, therefore more calories will be burnt.

I'm surprised why Fitbit doesn't take this into consideration.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi

Just a suggestion from a fairly new user but I log running as an exercise and then my fitbit app track is me via GPS and then adjusts calories when I've finished.

I do the same for yoga and aerobic classes to log the extra calories as well as keep a record of what activity I've done and when.

Thanks for your suggestion. I will try that.

Idea - you have a misunderstanding of the way that works.

You burn more per minute.

But do you run the same time - or the same distance?

You said the same distance. No where near 2 x as much calorie burn running the same distance.

Now, running the same time as walking no matter the distance, could be much higher and even 2 x the burn.

But you don't need to manually log either one.

Test it out.

Walking 3.5 mph is 3.7 METS.

Running 4.2 mph is 7.4 METS, 2x as much.

10 miles walking would take 2.86 hrs.

10 miles running would take 2.38 hrs.

Walking would burn 753 cal.

Running would burn 1266 cal.

Not 2 x as much. Because it takes different amount of time.
