I am swimming several times a week, usually about 1km each time, but often limited by only having half an hour in the water. On entering my activity a half hour swim of around 600-800 metres gives me the same calories burned (148). However, every website I have checked for calories burned swimming gives this as around 300 calories. Why?
I know I can manually adjust the calories, but does anyone understand why such a discrepancy?

I'd be interested in this answer, too. I understand that Fitbit is walk/run tracker and that it's not as reliable for use in other activities. But when I wear my HR and ride my bike, it tracks my heart rate, length of time, all that and for 30 minutes of intense riding, it shows maybe 60 calories. The graph will show peak, fat burn, cardio levels and then show 2 calories burned a minute. I don't get it. I'm working just as hard when I power walk, and other websites show much higher calorie burn for biking, based on age, weight and intensity. I'm all for underestimating the amount burned so I don't overeat, but the discrepancy is pretty big, especially based on heart rate.
