Fitbit surge only coming on when connected to the charger

Good day,

I bought a Fitbit surge while on vacation in Florida from Macy’s over the Christmas holiday for my boyfriend. It was a gift so it was wrapped and everything.
When I returned home; to the Caribbean, the watch refused to work without the charger plugged to it and the charger keeps popping out. This is very frustrating because I can’t return the watch to Macy’s as the time period for returns has expired and the shipping fee alone from my country to Florida cost just as much as the watch. Can someone help me please.

Was it really a Surge @Special4095 it has been almost two and a half years since this model was made.
