I travel frequently and the traveling seems to always disrupt my fitness plan and goals any tips?

If traveling by air, one thing I started doing is walking the concourses after getting through TSA at my originating airport, and at any layover. I figure I spend enough time sitting while on the plane.
My old standard was to just sit/work at the gate, or worse, at a food joint while waiting. I'll now first head to the departing gate area and note the time and where my steps are at, then note how long each loop of walking takes so I can guage when I need to be back in the gate area for boarding. If the flight is delayed, I keep looping past the gate to check the status. I've found I can rack up lots of miles walking concourses.
In hotels, I'll never take the elevator except for getting the luggage to the room the first time. Usually one of the staircases has an extra flight to get to the roof level, so I'll often scout that out for doing stair work while at the hotel. My last hotel stay I racked up 672 flights of stairs in 5 days. Most hotels also have fitness centers where you can get some cardio time, and pools are good exercise too.

Great tips! Especially the airport walking. We always just waste time sitting at the gate. Why not get some miles in especially because we'll sit enough on the plane. I'm travelling in a couple weeks and will definetly take some strolls in the airports!

I walk the concourses and pace around the waiting area . Usually I am one of the last people to get onto the plane. In most cities I walk, foregoing taxis or buses or metro unless it is at least 2 miles away.
I have trouble with my fitbit if I do not take my computer with me. This week I logged 15,000 steps every day but when I got home after travelling for 8 days..the synch said I walked 37 steps today and 0 for the last 7...discouraging to say the least

Syncing to my smart phone is a necessity while travelling. Thankfully on our cruise we are in the carribean every year so there is usually at least 1 port where we have service through Sprint. The other option is to write down your steps every night and manually entering them when you get back.

@travelers- Whenever I head out of town for more than a day, even if it's only for a one night stay, I always pack a couple of Thera bands. They are cheap, they don't take a lot of room, and you can do both cardio and strength training with them.
