Really the only time I feel "in the zone" is when I swim. And my zone is "not paying attention to how much my lungs are burning and how sore my legs are."
Lol.
Swimming is a really rhythmic sport, just like running or biking. Once you get into a tempo your mind can do other things and your body will keep moving forward. When I'm not focusing on how much everything hurts it's a lot easier to finish the workout.
As far as lifting, the closest thing I've had to a "zone" is when I put on some really angry music and pretend I'm hardcore. Then when I squat a rinky dink 105 lbs for a few sets I'm like YEAH LET'S DO IT AGAIN.
Fake it till you make it man, that's all I gotta say.

I am never in the zone when I lift. but when I cardio, I find the first and last mile are torture and the ones in the middle just kind of happen. I do find that if I have a good food, liquid day the day before, the workout is usually better. Days after going out, are hard. so hard.
