Getting steps

ANSWERED

Hi

I have a goal of 6,000 steps.  I know, not much to some.  I have trouble getting my goal because I have problematic legs.  I've broken both my feet in my life and tore my Achilles tendon.  The last two I did while exercising!  I just walk and basic things like the gazelle.  The only time recently I get my goal is when I take me daughter to the doctors.  I would like suggestions.  I mean my legs feel like slabs of concrete at night.  Okay, suggestions?  Thanks!

Hi @Jjdaughters. I’ve moved your post to the Get Moving forum where you may get more replies. No need to apologize for a low goal. What ever you and your doctor agree on is the one that is right for you. My own goal is at 8,000 because of health issues. Here are a couple things I’ve learned along the way that may help you.

I understand having legs that feel like “slabs of concrete.” I bought an under table elliptical which I can use while sitting. 20 minutes of peddling on this loosens up my “concrete” and makes the legs feel better. I do this in the morning and sometimes in the evening.

Another thought - I find it much easier to walk while pushing a grocery cart so I frequently go to the grocery store and walk every aisle, then the whole perimeter before I start shopping. At a bigger grocery store, this guarantees I reach my goal.

And don’t discount “just walking.” A walk around the block on a sunny day is good for legs and good for your spirits. Keep it up, doing the best you can, as often as you can!

No worries, @Jjdaughters, I've got you covered.

@SunsetRunnerthanks for mentioning the under table elliptical. I didn't actually know those existed. 🙂
