Good Sites for the Average Joe

Does anyone know of a site that helps you get in shape that doesn't involve getting crazy ripped? I want to lose weight, get in decent shape and improve my strength. But I have no desire to get ripped and insane muscular like you see at sites like bodybuilding.com. It's so hard to find a decent middle of the road site for average folks like me.

I love what bodybuilding.com offers, but its target audience if for folks wanting to achieve WAY more than me.

I use:

FitBit Aria
MyFitnessPal and MapMyRide, Garmin VivoSmart

The kinds of exercises listed on bodybuilding.com are pretty comprehensive, and cover almost every exercise that you would find on other sites. Sure, they've got pictures of super-ripped guys and gals on there, but you shouldn't feel intimidated. You can only get that ripped if you're really trying. I know it's probably not what you want to hear, but I would say bodybuilding.com is the best resource for finding weight training exercises. The only way you're going to get really ripped doing the exercises on there is if you work with really heavy weights and do some serious dieting and supplementation. Otherwise, you have nothing to worry about. Bodybuilding.com can give you some good advice about good form, which is going to keep you safe regardless of whether you're lifting 200 lbs or just your body weight.

Now, if you're REALLY that against the site, I would definitely recommend youtube as a resource. There are all kinds of people at all stages of their fitness journeys making videos on there. If you want to learn about good technique for your workouts, I highly recomend the B.U.F.F. Dudes and Athlean-X.

Thanks for the reply. Definitely a good site with all the exercises. Was hoping to find one with average Joe's like myself. Peeps with similar goals and so on. There really doesn't appear to be exactly what I'm looking for though.

Try Classical Stretch by Miranda Esmonde-White.  Objective is to lengthen and strengthen for a long lean look with lots of side benefits such as building muscle, improving posture, rebalancing body, etc.  Look into it... I've had very good success with this.

Hi,

I have just seen your post, and would like to say that on sites like bodybuilding.com, which is one of the sites that I have started using very regularly, there are a lot of "average Joe's" there. Other sites I use are Muscular Development, and UK-Muscle because I live in the UK and that makes it easier to follow recipe's etc.

I would suggest to register on one of these sites, and have a look through the forums. You'll find a lot of information from non ripped people for us "normal folks"

I quite enjoy a site called Blogaloties.com might not be quite what you are looking for but it's videos for weight training more are 5min - 20min with area specific and whole body ones that include a little cardio.

Most just use your body weight but some use 5-8lb weights and other equipment.

There are lots of videos that are easy for beginners, mid range and hard so lots of room to show improvement.

You wont accidentally end up looking like Hulk, you want even accidentaly end up looking like Captain America

Start, once you are happy, stop, or at least stop progressing
