HR varies from 60 to 120

Can anyone tell me if this is normal? My HR asleep is mostly 60-70. By day it is mostly 80-120, and has always run fast (at the age of 12, I once measured 240 after running and playing). But my Alta HR is giving a RHR in the 70s, as low as 68 when I am sleeping well. Is this a daytime resting rate, or some kind of average? And is it normal to have a heart rate which varies this much?

Fitbits use both sleeping heartrate and heart rate measured when you are inactive during the day to determine resting heart rate.Inactive  meaning when you are not showing steps taken.

You say by day it is mostly 80-120 but are you checking that when you are walking, doing work  or just sitting around?

The Alta reading sounds reasonably normal and it doesn't take much activity to get your heart rate up to  between 80-120.

Hi Bill, thanks for the explanation. I get my figures from the app. Here is a typical day -

As you can see, there is a big difference between my sleeping hr and my awake resting hr. So I wonder if the RHR is a weighted average of them?
