ANSWERED
Hi team

Iam curious what everybodies average heart rate is while walking through the office, grocery shopping or just generally walking around during the day. Mine seems to average around 105 bpm while walking through my office etc. would be interested to know anyone else's walking heart rates to compare! Thanks in advance

My heart rate used to be very low, but I was a lot more active once upon a time (volunteer firefighter & all). Now I'm 56 & my heart rate is a lot higher than it used to be & it scares me, to be honest. Now just walking from room to room it's in the 90s. First thing in the morning when I get up, it's in the low 80s but by the time I make it out into the kitchen to make coffee it's in the 110s until I sit down. I love my Fitbit & find I'm looking at it all the time, but it's made me paranoid. I'm even afraid of my treadmill now because I don't want to give myself a heart attack. Reading the messages here helped a lot. I think being 56 with a very sedate lifestyle (in the home 24/7), my 80s-90s heart rate is more normal than I thought. Now I just need the courage to get back on the treadmill. lol

This is me. I just turned 57 and while my resting heart rate is upper 50’s/low 60’s it jumps right up to 100-120 when I do mundane household activities like working in the kitchen, etc. I’m never out of breath or winded.  My Fitbit says I’ve exercised when I actually haven’t, I’m just walking around the house or doing light chores. I know I need to get back on the treadmill and exercise bike but I also have anxiety over my heart rate spiking.

This is interesting as I've had similar issues and was wondering if I should see a cardiologist.  Fitbit says my RHR is 69, but often during the dat, my heartrate is around 85 when I'm sitting.  Walking around at a leisurely pace it is around 110.  I'd like to increase my aerobic capacity, but I'm kind of afraid to do much exercise because my hr gets high.

YES, I hate that fitbit thinks I've exercised sometimes when I've just been walking around the house.  I wish I could change that.  I'm also afraid of hr spiking and we are going to Disney World on Friday and I'm thinking maybe I'll hang out by the pool.  No way do I feel I can walk the parks all day!  I'm paranoid about my hr.

I’ve since realized my spiked heart rate is because I’m not as active as I should be. Once I started really exercising again (even though it was scary at first to see my high HR) I noticed it wasn’t as high doing “normal” things. A friend told me to embrace the HR and realize that if you’re moving it’s a good thing! Have fun at Disney! Wear comfortable shoes, drink your water and enjoy!

HR all by itself is not an issue. Blood Pressure is moe important
indicator. If you think you might have issues contact a MD.

Thanks for the encouragement! I was happier with my old Fitbit that doesn’t show the heart rate because I was oblivious to it and not so worried. I got into an obsessive funk looking at my hr all the time with my new Fitbit. Aargh. I think the stress of checking it all the time isn’t good so I need to stop wearing it all the time. I occasionally take a low dose beta blocker if I know a stressful event is coming and that keeps my heart rate lower and I feel better.

I started thinking the same thing. I worry about my heart rate so much that I'm always looking at the Fitbit & stressing about my heart rate. I'm wondering if that's causing it to be higher a lot of the time. Ignorance was bliss. lol

Why is HR not an issue?  I actually started on a low dose of blood pressure medication 2 months ago (5 mg of lisinapril).  My pressure is good now.  I went to a naturopathic doctor recently because my primary refused to run vitamin tests, etc (insurance won't cover).  Primary did run a CBC and thyroid test which came back mostly normal. ND says I got stuck in fight or flight mode and have excess adrenaline in body (I did a urine test and I am excreting higher than normal amounts).  So he thinks it's a stress response causing a higher heartrate for me and I'm working on improving my breathing, plus taking a few supplements.  There does seem to be some improvement.

Fitbit reads my RHR as 72 to 75. Usually if I'm just sitting at the computer or at work my heart rate is mid-80s. I'm on stimulants for ADHD, so that doesn't help, plus I'm a fairly high-strung, anxious person. Diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder (so much fun).

When I get up and walk about it is usually high 90s to 100s, sometimes in the 110s.

I exercise 4-5 days a week for 30 to 45 minutes, all cardio. My diet sucks, but I am working on it.

GP seems unconcerned and he's an amazing doctor, so I'm trusting him. He did say if I am super worried about it, or if it is a pain-point for my anxiety he can get me over to a cardiologist.

Thanks for your response.  Do you take anything for Generalized Anxiety?  I occasionally take a beta blocker, but that is it.  I know I should do cardio, but for me that is just brisk walking or walking up hills.

I was on Paxil then Wellbutrin for a number of years. I haven't been on anxiety meds for awhile, but they are very helpful. Doc doesn't want me on beta blockers since my blood pressure is in ideal range, I asked haha! I wanted to get on them just to lower heart rate, but he said since my blood pressure is good, it could cause it to fall into hypotension and that would just create more problems.

Hello, I work from home and my resting heart rate changes. Mostly it's between 64to68 on normal days but the week before my cycle it goes up from 70to73. So one week out of the month it's like this. Doing any household chores or chores out doors my heart rate has gone up as high as 150. I have noticed the more I get into shape the less high it is. Right now the highest I've gone is 133 because I've been trying to walk more and I am strength training. It freaks me out when it gets high all the same. I've learned a lot of breathing techniques to help me out with that. I suppose it's all normal though, according to Fitbit the highest my heart rate can go is up to 165. I don't know about all that though. Oh and for reference if you've read this far I am 34yr old female. Hope this helps! God bless and take care.
