House cleaning miles!!!

So I've been cleaning since about 8am this morning. And it's now 6pm. Almost 5,000 steps and 2.15 miles??? Whaaaaa??? LOL

Think we should start a Housecleaning Hustle challenge, too! Hahahaha!

I like the idea. Most of my steps are from housecleaning and outdoor work.

Q: Do you think you could manage to pick up your dirty socks already?

A: Hey I didn't want to deprive you of the steps!

Best Answer

I'm the only one in my house of 5 people that actually DOES pick up dirty socks!!! LOL

I didn't clean today, but I DID walk on the trails at the park and went just a little over what I did yesterday cleaning the house! LOL... But the one thing that DOES make a difference, I think, is that my heart rate goes up while walking to a fat burn status, while cleaning it does not. (Well, except when I find candy wrappers in my daughter's drawers or under her bed, and clothes on the floor in the bedrooms that for SOME ODD REASON didn't quite make it into the dirty laundry basket. SOME ODD REASON being LAZINESS!!!! ) LOL

I used to be a slob.

I still am a slob, but I used to be a slob too.

@CRISSY92,

If you make your activity public on your profile, then more people will be able to make constructive suggestions. For whatever reason, many people don't have public profiles anymore.

If you aren't burning fat below the fat-burn zone, what are you burning? The maximum fat burn zone is the area where you burn the most fat vs. carbs. Above this, it transitions to the reverse ratio. You are trying to get rid of fat, so anything below it is good.

Here is a chart showing the foci of interests for Fitbitters.

Notice eating well is a distant fourth. Most of these posts concern eating in a way to lose weight. Few are concerned with healthy eating. Here is a harsh fact. Approximately 80% of children 10 years or older have gross signs of atherosclerosis. Gross means it can be seen with the naked eye. The age gets lower every year, and they are now seeing it in fetuses. School lunches are killing children.

You can burn enough calories doing housework. All it takes is about 500 calories above your BMI to lose weight steadily if your food is right.  Direct your attention towards learning about healthy food and then burn calories preparing it for you and your family. A healthy body does not get overweight. There aren't fat animals in the wild. It also seldom gets any of the degenerative diseases so popular today.

I recommend watching the documentary "Forks over Knives." It's likely on Neflix. If not, you can buy the SD version on Amazon for $4.99. It may add decades to your life and the lives of your family members.

Excessive exercise in the form of walking, running, etc. is a rabbit trail. If a person does it because they truly enjoy it, then I'm all for it. But it won't help for permanent weight loss. Humans need very little exercise to stay healthy. They do need frequent motion, which can be gotten by doing activities like housework and yard work.

I've seen a lot in the last 65 years. I've seen society go from a group of people where only 15% were overweight to one where 40% are obese and 70% are overweight and obese. I've seen the medical industry become by far the biggest employer. It seems like every parking lot and every waiting room is full of sick people. Doctors won't tell people "It's the food, stupid!" because it's bad for their business. (This is a variation of a quote by Bill Clinton where he said, "It's the economy stupid!)

It's getting to the point where few people know how to prevent disease through healthy eating, and most of us have quit talking because it's not worth fighting over a century of false advertising. It's not only in the United States. It's worldwide. The people in China have gotten so fat that the world has started to wobble on its axis because of the weight imbalance. Ok, that's a bit of an exaggeration.

HA-HA, me the same. Really the cleaning takes too much time, and if I start it, I can make a daily norm of steps. Unfortunately, it doesn't work like exercises and the body doesn't get fat on it. LOL. But to be honest the last time my job takes so much time that I didn't find time for cleaning and the only way I have is to call to the help a cleaning company for apartments that will do it. More than all, I even have no time for cooking, and I always order food from a restaurant. So, I an afraid that I wouldn't gain any excess kilos with such lifestyle.

It does take a lot of time to clean the entire house @Joseph1985! I actually have to clean today, so I'll make sure to check the amount of steps I have by the time to finish. 😀

And I'll get a few extra steps when I go for a walk with my dog 🐕

Housecleaning Hustle challenge haha, not bad to do a little bit of workout in these pandemic times!! But honestly I still prefer professional cleaners to do the job a little bit lazy I know. It saves me so much time like I can just take a nice long bath with no worries. I contact them at any time and they are always ready to lend a hand. I personally enjoyed their services https://crowncleaners.org.uk , also my neighbor recommended it to me. Since then I don't even get a little bit of workout while cleaninggg maybe I should change that??

Welcome to the forums @dollyj! Who doesn't love a noce long bath 😱

I usually try to clean one room per day, because cleaning the entire place in just one day sounds like a lot to me and I probably wouldn't have enough time to do it, but I would definitely get a lot of steps!

lol so true. I have been racking up miles while I was cleaning. And people say that house cleaning is easy.
I usually clean on my own but I am currently looking for a professional cleaning crew. I need one because I need a professional deep clean so to speak in one of my apartments. Thanks to some of really good fortune I own a few apartments. I usually rent them out but I am currently in between tenants and before new tenants move in I want to make sure that the apartment is clean. I have been looking for end of lease cleaning South West London being my main area of search since that is where the apartment is located. I have seen a few different companies so far and I have called a few of them and asked for a potential estimate. If I won't like it I mean I can always clean it myself (extra fitness hehe) but we will have to wait and see.
