How can a person average 80,000 steps in a day?

ANSWERED

I don't mean to call anybody out or question somebody's integrity but there are fitbit users who average better than 75K steps a day over the course of a week. Assuming they get eight hours of sleep, that means they're walking almost 40 minutes each hour every hour of the day unless they're asleep. Every day for a week.

It is possible that they're running or training for a marathon or walking really fast or are really really into this walking thing but it seems like it is too much. Any way you do the math, it is an incredible amount of walking and it is sustained over the entire week.

What's the most anyone has ever walked in a day? How about in a week?

I wonder what it would be like if I got up at five am and walked all day until midnight? Doing the math, it would theoretically be possible to break 100k but I don't think I could get anywhere near that. And 80k a day for a week seems too much too.

What do you think?

This is why I've given up on workweek hustles. I'd kill myself to get 20k steps a day, but I'd still end up at the bottom of the pack. The same people racking up 50k steps every day always won.

Actually 20k isnt awful 5mi in the morning and 5mi at night for me.

Yup - that's exactly what I do.  It's unrealistic to think that someone averages more than 40-50,000 steps EVERY DAY.   I have encountered some people like this and I don't buy it.

My mailman and UPS drivers do. I asked😂😂 but the UPS driver was honest, and said he doesn't know why but his Fitbit counts his arm swings for the packages a lot of times too🤷‍:female_sign:

Well I’ve done 80k now! So  no need for the snarky comments in responses. It’s almost borderline ADULT  BULLYING!!

Nobody on this thread said you can't do 80k steps in a day. Of course that is doable. The question is whether you can do 80k steps every single day for weeks on end.

I don't know how or if people can do that much, and I don't care... I care about what I do.  AND, I care that my actual FitBit devices keep falling apart.  Anyone else have this problem?  I've gone thru 4 in 2.5 years.  The first one was replaced, but none since, and I'm really not abusing the device???

I too had problems with my Fitbit Flex years ago, approx. 3-1/2 when i first got it. Main problems had to do with the charging. Years ago, they replaced them at least 3x but the past year I’ve had less problems. Recently my daughter bought us the Fitbit Alta. Mine is the Alta HR. I’m still getting used to it; but seems to be working alright; and so far have had no problems charging it. I still find it a pain to track my steps while doing the spinning class; but now i remove it from my wrist and insert it in my stocking. That seems to work. So far, so good.
Good luck, and don’t give up!

I have questioned it myself. I have woken up to challenges take a peem and by 630am someone already have 63k steps in .yes 63k in 6.5 hours on a daily showdown.  I'm very active and usually don't challenge someone's integrity because myself I have worked out 1158 days in a row. That is over 3 yrs .I'm Gen. Mgr at Wayne Frier homes Waycross and I'm a selling mgr. my dealership is over 5 acres and 35-40homes on show. We are the southeasts #1dealer last 9 yrs selling more homes than anyone in that span 100+ a year. Father of 4 myself and my day does not stop when I get home from work. Last few years coaching my younger kids in football softball baseball keeps me moving and I myself play adult sports. I have done the math and even with my routine it's tough to average what I do daily and very exhausting. Feet knees even back are very stressed. My Diamond will is very strong and I will not be defeated and if beaten straight up I'm accepting but I can't stand to be cheated and beat. I have researched the activities of super athletes and you can as well and u will see that it is not possible to do so and maintain  for a lifestyle. Heck my BEAUTIFUL WIFE is a nurse at the hospital and she don't come close to it .Sad that some ppl have no integrity

@Supernate135 - some people have figured out a way to cheat and overstate their steps.  Don't know what the motivation is.  Seems dysfunctional to me.

Also, some people are hung up on step count accuracy, and if they break their Fitbit, they stop exercising.  Tail wagging the dog.  I don't get it.
