I don't mean to call anybody out or question somebody's integrity but there are fitbit users who average better than 75K steps a day over the course of a week. Assuming they get eight hours of sleep, that means they're walking almost 40 minutes each hour every hour of the day unless they're asleep. Every day for a week.
It is possible that they're running or training for a marathon or walking really fast or are really really into this walking thing but it seems like it is too much. Any way you do the math, it is an incredible amount of walking and it is sustained over the entire week.
What's the most anyone has ever walked in a day? How about in a week?
I wonder what it would be like if I got up at five am and walked all day until midnight? Doing the math, it would theoretically be possible to break 100k but I don't think I could get anywhere near that. And 80k a day for a week seems too much too.
What do you think?

Good work, like you said 2 days in a row. The discussion forum is for members who are doing over 80 K 7 days a week on several weeks a year. There are lots of running guiness record but no one can still moving the same record day after day after day....

I know two folks that average 14 miles per day and they are in their 70s and 80s. That’s just under 30,000 steps for someone their size and gate. I don’t see how you get to 80,000.
My daily record is 61,000 steps and it was done working while carrying 20 pounds on my shoulders. I have done over 50,000 6 times in the past 6 years. My best yearly daily average came in 2015 at 19,946

I have wondered how a person can average 271,000+ steps per week. Even when I was biking 3 days a week and walking or running twice a week I never even came close to that. I would have counted myself an active person during the day as well. You would have to never stop moving ALL day long and that is just not humanly possible.

I have seen people average 150k a day and break over 800k steps a week average. I saw a guu hit 257k steps in a day and average close to that the rest of the week. Many of these people do not run marathons. While your average is realistic based on your schedule, I doubt many that reach 150k step a day are achieving this fairly. I had a fitbit friend that said he had a glitch and it gave him an extra 50k steps a day. I am starting to think some users add steps somewhere to increase their average.

If a person comments in this thread, it stays alive. That includes people who comment eight or nine times that they do not care about the question. It also includes people that repeatedly tell us they don't understand why this thread is still alive.
I like the discussion and I appreciate thoughtful responses. In particular I wonder how it impacts the competitions within a workplace where there are prizes or discounts on insurance rates. It seems like those are people who might be willing to cheat.

it IS impossible to do anything else. the only reason i'm trying to get 100,000k in a day is because i know someone else who has and she didn't lie. i know it's possible, it just isn't easy. but much over 125k in one day is most likely suspect, unless maybe the person is a meth freak and doesn't sleep lol. i just want to do it--not to beat anyone, just for myself. once i do it, i probably will never do it again.
what annoys me are the people who don't calibrate their unit--plus you never know who you're competing against. if i see someone average 44k over months, i know i'm competing against someone who has similar activity to me. when a person has 1,000,000 in a week: paint shaker or some other mechanical manipulation. i wouldn't even know how it's possible for the fitbit to measure over 7500 steps an hour unless it's messed with, and i also think it will break the unit if done for a prolonged period of time.
i am also retired so i know i have much more free time to devote to my step count than a lot of people. i have a friend with one and she's 27, has a desk job but i KNOW she walks more than 4,000 steps in a day but that's what hers counts. so some people's are too low, others are too high.
i'm about ready to drop out of all challenges because they're not regulated well enough. it's the same with anything online: people who play games and the high scorer manages a hack so their score is over a billion and others fairly only reach 200k or so lose interest because it isn't honest competition. i REALLY don't think it should be enough to make someone stop exercising altogether. that seems like the person is just looking for an excuse to give up. i can see not participating in competitions though.

Agree with everything except 7500/hr. The military March pace is 7200/hr and I've had a number of instances of 8k /hr when I'm trying to win the 10mi challenge.
But those 300K in a day people😂

okay. 🙂 i believe you. i've had a fitbit since 2009 and trust me, i've TRIED lol. i personally can't get over 7500 (i don't think, maybe 7800 but i'm averaging). that's my yardstick for knowing how many hours i have left to get in however many steps.

Last year when my fitbit band came apart I was presented with a Garmin Vivofit. I am able to compete with my fitbit community because of the fitbit app on my iphone. In a 4 week chalenge recently completed I saw the top 4 on leader board have averaged over 50000 steps daily in fact 1 guy is supposed to have done over 100,000 steps on one day. Now after reading comments on fitbit community I am sure these guys must have tweaked their fitness band to log what they do.
Agree with you but if some one averages that continously they must be champion athletes in training.
With 3 hours of walk I log around 25000 steps/day.

If you go on a week long hike you can do it, I did. I hiked from sun up to sun down every day for a week. The adrenaline keeps you going but once I got home, all the pain rushed in followed by exhaustion. I am not sure I could have kept it up every week for months though. But I guess if you are doing it at home, you have access to a lot of nutritious and high calorie foods as well as Epsom salt, so you can recover faster and better.
Also depends on genetics, I knew an anirexic girl that walked 12 hours a day on a 300 calorie diet for months before her family got her committed.

I have done 40000 steps in one day with a lot of dedication, but everyone is different. Depending on your weight, height and stride length:all these factor into your steps. I can do 10000 steps during a hike and my sister doing same hike can be at 16000 steps. So I do not think 80000 would be impossible but would take some dedication to achieve it.

dedication and hydration! especially hydration!. I just plowed through 13'000 steps and im looking to add to that. if you traveled 61 km you would get 80'000+ steps. its not impossible but that's a marathon runner doing a full day.

There are several such guys and gals on Garmin Connect. Personal records of
over 100,000 steps. While I accept the pesrsonal records being possible but
when I see them averaging over 50,000 / day continously I start wondering.
My best is around 28,000 steps and I did average 25,000 a day for a month

Doing the math on the #s 80k steps means for 24 hours you avg 3333.33 steps an hour..? most likely ppl aint walking around 24 hours straight. more feasible is 14 hours 5,714.28 steps per hour... again i find it hard though that ppl walk around 14 straight hours.. i have a demanding sales job where i walk from open to close most days 8am-6pm but im at the gym by 630am before work. then when i get home i get in the yard, or 3 days a week go on an evening run and still cant hit them #s... Its just sad that ppl have to cheat. I have only lost 2 challenges which just happened yesterday ...(i didnt realize the time zone difference somehow) and it burns me up.. it is what it is but knowing i earn mine (every step of the way) pun intended makes me a happy fitbitter
but to avg it daily...? thats the thing...? i will get my 100k in bank on that but noway i can avg 50-60-80 a day...not for a week even and im 1289 days in a row without missing a workout
