I don't mean to call anybody out or question somebody's integrity but there are fitbit users who average better than 75K steps a day over the course of a week. Assuming they get eight hours of sleep, that means they're walking almost 40 minutes each hour every hour of the day unless they're asleep. Every day for a week.
It is possible that they're running or training for a marathon or walking really fast or are really really into this walking thing but it seems like it is too much. Any way you do the math, it is an incredible amount of walking and it is sustained over the entire week.
What's the most anyone has ever walked in a day? How about in a week?
I wonder what it would be like if I got up at five am and walked all day until midnight? Doing the math, it would theoretically be possible to break 100k but I don't think I could get anywhere near that. And 80k a day for a week seems too much too.
What do you think?

Depends on your stride length but if you use the out of the box numbers(I have experience with the Zip, Alta, and Surge) aproximately 5 miles to 10,000 steps. 80K = 40-ish miles and 100K = 50-ish miles.

I can't believe this is still going on.
What difference does it make to anyone else if people are high steppers, cheats or whatever? Focus on your own life rather than what someone else does.
It's STEPS for **ahem**s sake.... it's not money, it's not taking away a life, it's not harming a single person. It's all the people in here complaining that are making it so people who DO get high steps every day feel bad about doing so, because they are doubted. You are harming others by doing that.
Worry about your own activity.......this has been going on for almost 3 years in this topic alone? Like really.... don't you all have something else to do... like walk somewhere? Imagine how many steps you could have gotten in the time if takes you to complain (and don't think I'm a hypocrite cause I just mamaged over 2000 steps while typing this)

I can't believe the cheating is still going on. It DOES hurt people who lose to them. It's not up to you to decide. It's up to the person who is cheated to decide. Many have left the activity groups because of rampant cheating. Maybe they lost the motivation to walk and died as a result. How would we know?

I don't think anybody is upset with you, it is just a hot button with some regarding the obvious cheating some folks do.

The only person they are hurting, and I mean REALLY hurting is themselves. 80K steps equals 55 steps per minute for 24 hours, take away 6 hours for sleep and it's 74 steps per minute, do they eat, complete their bodily functions while walking, do they work, have any intimate moments in their life, Oh excuse me, THEY DON"T HAVE A LIFE! These competitions are only B.S. and everybody knows it. It's beyond insane. 80k steppers are like some politician, which will remain nameless, they live in their own fantasy world. I take back my first statement, they are not hurting themselves, because you can't hurt yourself in your own fantasy world!

Well I managed to do 111k in one day.... in 10 hours actually. By the way that was with a garmin tracker.... you actually can't add steps to their system at all. So you figuring that it's over 24hours is very wrong. I started at 6am & was done by 4pm. Many people have done over 100k in a day & it has not taken them 24 hours at all. I can get 10k an hour easily.... at the moment I've been awake for less than an hour and already have 6k..... and that's with dealing with my toilet breaks, dogs wanting to go outside.... and having to stop to type.
But I guess I must be in a fantasy land....... I wonder..... on Monday I'm not working..... 100k could be simple enough again.... it's been a year since my last one.

PinkRayneDrop:
Do you still "walk in place" or are you getting those numbers by really walking? I'm not judging, just curious because it would be really impressive if you are getting step counts like that actually walking instead of the foot stomping thing you described awhile back. Either way good for you getting all that exercise.

Paso...... if it was a choice...Garmin all the way. More accurate in distance, calories & GPS tracking. I've gone from a vivofit, to a Forerunner 15, toe a Forerunner 225 & now my Forerunner 235..... so worth the money each time. They don't break down like fitbits always seem to do ...

Some of the time. It's still a workout when you break into a sweat in the dead cold of winter though. No different to being on a treadmill.
