I don't mean to call anybody out or question somebody's integrity but there are fitbit users who average better than 75K steps a day over the course of a week. Assuming they get eight hours of sleep, that means they're walking almost 40 minutes each hour every hour of the day unless they're asleep. Every day for a week.
It is possible that they're running or training for a marathon or walking really fast or are really really into this walking thing but it seems like it is too much. Any way you do the math, it is an incredible amount of walking and it is sustained over the entire week.
What's the most anyone has ever walked in a day? How about in a week?
I wonder what it would be like if I got up at five am and walked all day until midnight? Doing the math, it would theoretically be possible to break 100k but I don't think I could get anywhere near that. And 80k a day for a week seems too much too.
What do you think?

@MihaiMVP, if I'm reading the graph correctly, it is for a one day period but also showing a weekly average of a hair less than 60,000 steps per day. Yes, no?

MihaiMVP For someone to log 100k steps their log should show the
following. Distance 37 miles, calories burned between 3700 and 4400 and if
they average 120 steps per minute their dash board should show over 13
hours of an increased heart rate. Distance and calories burned is filled
in by the person logging in, but the graph of activity should show over 13
hours of increased heart rate. And you say you saw someone log 100k steps
2 days in a row, just think about it. No I do not accept sarcastic clients
who do not or will not listen, it's a waste of my time and their time.
Well actually if they don't have one with HR..... then that would show nothing....my One does not have it... nor does my Flex.
But hey..... I guess that would mean it never got done.
As for distance...... well you know that whole stride thing fitbit has built in....... it's differnet for every single person..... so what the distance would be for one... would not be for another...... and considering that once again...unless it's GPS tracked...... then distance can be anything.
Calories burned depend on so many factors..... height, weight, age....sex. So what one person burns (and due to being Female, 41, short & thin means it's harder for me to get high calorie burns) may not be what another burns...
You can log as many steps as you want... but in a challenge.... added steps don't count..... so it can't be part of cheating..... nor can the distance.
But I guess once again not one person does it..... I'm sure my postie, or the ones that wortk in the city & have to walk would easily get it

@shipo That should be a monthly average. It was a fun challenge, but I wasn't close to the top as I would have thought as quite a few people started logging 90-110 k days. I can send you specifics (such as tracks and graphs), the main idea was actually to help kids with neurolocomotor problems, but it proved to be quite competitive ...

USAF-Larry I agree, my stride is about 2 feet so 100k steps would be about 37 miles, they would burn between 3700 and 4400 calories, if they took 120 steps per minute it would take them over 13 hours to complete and then do it again the next day is unbelievable!

MihaiMVP I was assuming a stride length of 2 feet, a stride length of 18 inches would calculate out to be about 28 miles. If an individual was jogging or running there is no way they could do it 2 days in a row. I've run 2 marathons and the next day I ran my usual 6-7 miles but could in no way attempt or do another marathon which is much less than 100k steps. I congratulate you on your 7th place finish in your month long challenge and encourage you to keep it up for yor health and well being.

MihaiMVP If this person is doing 100K steps 2 days in a row the graph should show 13 hours of elevated heart rate for those 2 days.

PinkRayneDrop As far as calories burned I was using an average, A person will burn between 100 and 120 calories per mile if they walk, run, jog, skip or crawl, it's a matter of moving a weight through a specific distance. You are right weight will affect the calories burned, so I would go with the 100 calories because if a person is actually doing all this walking then they are on the slimmer side.

MihaiMVP Then I applaud you effort again, a challenge that raises money for a good cause is commendable. If people like you continue to log all these steps for years then maybe some challege will raise money for people with degenerate joint disease. Enough said.

Thank you very much! The competition is now over, but people can still donate to the Romanian Maltese Relief Service (https://www.walkingmonth.ro/info/cause/) ; the organizing company also ensures that 100% of the funds (registration fees and donations) go to the children of a special kindergarden, so that one day they may be able to move independently. 20 RON is equivalent to 5 USD. We are still waiting for the official results, but our team did really well, averaging over 50000 steps / person / day.

That's a lot of steps; but totally understable due to your job and young children. The only steps I've seen continuously questioned are the ones where people say they are getting 50,000 per day although perhaps I misunderstand and they are really saying 50K a week. I don't know. We have to do what we do for ourselves and our lifestyles. I'm trying not to weight 3000 lbs so I do about 5 miles a day when I can.... I think it's wonderful that Fitbit is getting peope to think about moving. 🙂

I'm going to do a walking marathon of 26miles next year and i guestimate that would be 60,000 steps, plus activity there and after so to get 80,000 plus would be literally walking 12hours+ a day.
@Trice wrote:I agree with you, its hard for me to see how someone can walk 80k to 100k a day. How many miles is that???

Is average 130k a week I work in hospitality. And that is a pretty reasonable week for me. Not too much going on but enough to break a sweat like at this very point in time I'm sitting on 21,730 for today
I don't think the issue is 80,000 or even 130,000 steps in a week, it is that many steps in a day, day after day after day.

I did a 50km walk for charity earlier in the year and i hit the 60,000 steps in the day mark. I only did the half option of the walk there was a 100km mark so I guess people who are training for those or doing them is going to hit 120,000 steps
The winner of the event I did ran the 100km in 8hours 40min
