I don't mean to call anybody out or question somebody's integrity but there are fitbit users who average better than 75K steps a day over the course of a week. Assuming they get eight hours of sleep, that means they're walking almost 40 minutes each hour every hour of the day unless they're asleep. Every day for a week.
It is possible that they're running or training for a marathon or walking really fast or are really really into this walking thing but it seems like it is too much. Any way you do the math, it is an incredible amount of walking and it is sustained over the entire week.
What's the most anyone has ever walked in a day? How about in a week?
I wonder what it would be like if I got up at five am and walked all day until midnight? Doing the math, it would theoretically be possible to break 100k but I don't think I could get anywhere near that. And 80k a day for a week seems too much too.
What do you think?

I walked 33,000 steps in a day. I had work this day (9 hours), and had to go to the gym for weightlifting (1 hour). Still managed, but my feet were sore for the next week, and I felt so weak, I was afraid I was going to collapse. I climbed in bed without getting 35000 steps.
I kick start my day by waking up 30 minutes earlier (To me that's 4:30am) and doing fasted cardio. During which I get an avg of 4,000 steps. this means I am 4,000 steps ahead of my game by the time I start heading off to work.
This implies I can also achieve 8,000 steps per hour. So in 10 hours, could theoretically get 80,000 steps. I don't know about you, but my days are about 16 hours long.

You mean the folks that post their stats with a selfie with their face and hair all done up.... Got 75,000 steps today with 38 active minutes? And here it is only 5:00 p.m. and ready for a night out? I've seen them, too. I heard once that some hospital/rehab center required a daily step count from their employees. So everyone (who couldn't or wouldn't put in the time and effort) attached their Wristbits ato the elliptical machine handles so it logs steps anytime someone uses it. It doesn't matter if people cheat or not... THEY know what work they put in.

Yep. And from the posts like that that I've seen, it's a wonder that we haven't run out of emojis.

He seemed kind of miffed when I called him on it. Claimed it was too difficult to post activity graphs to back it up.

I have no idea how someone can do 237K on any given day.
I do find it amusing that so many get so worked up about those who throw up big numbers like 100K steps. I see a lot of people who even explain how to get an Olympic Sandal. They get up early. they avoid hills, they load up with water....all very valid tactics.
What always amuses me is the people who say it can't be done. I posted a pic below of one of those of those guys; he averages about 2.7K a day. This is a guy who rails against people who post large step numbers; a guy who averages 2,661 steps a day.
It's one thing to go out and try to put up big step numbers. God knows I can't do it; but I'm not going to say it's impossible. Years ago, Nolan Ryan threw a 90 mile an hour fastball and people said he could not do it. There were no radar guns then.
Just because people say "it can't be done" doesn't make it so.

Of course it can be done in one day. That was never in question. OP was questioning those who average 80K on a daily basis. 80K every day?

@PA_Ridge No, it just means averaging 80k per day, (compare to saying, averaging 80k on a weekly basis). Individual day values don't matter. Otherwise put, "on a daily basis" is just a clumsy way of saying "per day".

There are over 700 comments on this, and the groups no longer exist that created the question.
I don't see anyone posting that they are doing 80K a day, where would we see it? The entire discussion is moot.
I would guess that we all would say that 80K every day would be pretty hard to swallow, but no one is saying such a thing anymore to the best of my knowledge.
Honestly. Can someone provide a link to a poster that is putting up 80K a day? All I ever see is the occasional Olympic Sandal here and there.

@Patrick, There are people that average over 80k/day honest steps for extended periods of time (several months), but they generally don't use Fitbit (try Garmin + Strava), so they won't be posting here.

I have no clue, but more power to them, they are exceeding my weekly average for sure 😃

And in today's fairy tale, someone's claiming a weekly total of.........8,455,178 steps.

HEY FITBIT! does anyone in charge have any COMMON SENSE? 8,455,178 steps in a week! Or 247,000 steps in 24 hours! 240,000 steps in 24 hours would mean 166 steps per minute every minute of every hour for 24 hours! This thread has gone on long enough. Have the courage to filter out some of these ridiculous numbers. Call out the liars!

This is on the FitBit mobile app's social feed. I doubt that FB would bother policing that.
And why bother in the first place? Anyone dumb enough to seriously post that, or believe that post...kinda beyond help.

This is very easy for a retiree. I've been averaging just over 20,000 steps/day for years. I'm retired and a morning person and I walk about 3 miles every morning, leaving me about 14,000 steps to get for the rest of the day. I walk with my wife for a while and can walk to stores, the Y and a community garden in the neighborhood.
Easy unless you live in a place where walking is dangerous like a suburban road.
