Just recently got under 200 lbs and can now have some spring in my step to start slow jogging.
Prior to this, I would walk about about a 3.2 - 3.7 mph walking pace (17 - 16 minute mile rate). I'd do two mall walks (about 2.2 miles apiece) adjacent to my office bldg (once in the morning at 6 AM and then at lunch) so that would account for 4.4 miles, then I'd do around 3.1 miles walking around the lake at my neighborhood. That would get me to 20K+ steps regularly. Pace was anywhere from 132 - 140+ depending upon whether I did some light jogging during the walk around the lake.

The days I get over 20,000 steps are nine hours at work on my feet. I can top ten miles, big busy store! then walking my pups at night for an hour each. "Walk" is a joke with them it's more doing sprints with breaks to speed walk. I'm proud to see ten or eleven miles but I'm not a spring chicken. Aleve and Aspercreme are my good friends.

I'm a dog walker and walk up to 5 dogs a day, It takes me about 2.5/ 3 hours walking to do 20k steps, most dog walks make up 10k 🙂

I think the key is to do everything in little chunks. When I'm at work, instead of sitting on breaks, I go outside, put on my headphones, and go for a walk. If I have an hour lunch, I'll walk for 50 min and eat the last 10. It really doesn't take long to eat.
I average 25k steps a day and actually haven't gone under 20. Weekends are tougher, believe it or not because I don't exercise in the mornings.

I easily get above 20,000 steps a day unless sick (which I have been the last few days, so my total steps has dropped). My issue is getting above 40,000 steps a day.
I am a fidgeter, and I walk everywhere: to the shops, to the library, to the video store, to the laundromat. I don't own a car. I walk everywhere, and I walk fast. Lately I am trying to get climbing badges, so sometimes put an hour aside for that too. My down steps count towards my overall steps per day.

I hit 20K every now and then, usually at work. If I really tried harder I could probably get 20K every workday. Stay off the workcart, stay off the computer, do a few more rounds in the jungle gym that is the workplace.

My wife works with a very competive guy who ups his daily step totals by walking in place while watching television.

It's too bad that I haven't seen TomTom GPS SportsWatch or Wireless FitBit record calisthenics (like situps, pushups, trunk twists, windmills, side leg lifts, doggies, etc.) calories. I use Internet tables I have found to estimate calories burned for my weight, time, number of reps, etc...Anyone know of some good device that will record such activity?

I walk the dog in the morning and that gives me about 2k then i go for a 6mi walk and get about 14k and then I just walk around until I'm done w my homework. I then take my dog for a big walk that gives me about 9k and then I just dance for fun at night. Its not about moving all day long its just walking when you have free time. I also use the community to get motivated because it makes me mad if i'm not even close to number #1

Hi
Newbie here just starting out.
I'm trying to swim (before work) 3 to 4 work days per week. On these days I'm not that bothered about how many steps I take as long as its over 10,000.
On workdays I dont swim - I try to get above 20,000. I do this by walking some of my daily work commute. I need to get two trains to work per day (London, England). I need to take the 1st one, but I try to walk the second, shorter one.
I hope this helps.

As a desk jockey, on days I work, I usually get my 10,000 but it's rarely more than 12,000.
I try to do a 3-4 mile walk each day, which equates to 6,500 to 8,500 steps, and the bulk of those steps make up my final total.
On my off days, I usually start the night before, since I work a shift that ends at 1 a.m. -- an 1.5 mile post work walk counts as my first significant steps of the day.
Than I try to get in a four-mile walk, after I get up in the early afternoon, which gets me to around 13,000 steps
I than try and get handful of mile walks to finish it off, usually featuring four laps around the local mall which will account for 4,000.
The problem is, since my days off are back to back, my feet feel like they have really taken a beating and I end up having to back off on the third day, which is my first day back at work.

i march in place when i brush my teeth or if i'm just standing still for any reason. It's become such habit that I didn't even realise at first when I did this in the company of others until I noticed a strange look on their face. I'm not sure if the tracker actually logs marching in place (It only records when i'm on my elliptical standing up but does not count any steps if i'm sitting down and using the machine). I should sync it with the phone program and test it. I started doing the marching because my blood pools into my feet if i'm not moving and makes my legs hurt/dizzy/etc. anyway, I also thought it could add to the daily step count.
