Just wondering what people do to increase their steps per day. I work a very sedentary job at my desk in front of a computer 8-12 hours a day. Got any advice for a newbie? Thanks!

Many trips to the water cooler--especially with the excuse of summer heat and thirst. Oh, and so many copies have to be made throughout the day. In fact, copies have to be made to back up the copies! Can't be too careful. With any luck, with all that copying, the darn machine will jam. Then, you can jump up and down, wave your arms around in the air--especially the one you wear your fitbit on-- and chase people around the office--screaming about fixing their own paper jams for a change! By this point, you'll of course be very thirsty and will need more trips to the water cooler.......

Walk the stairs, don't take the elevator. Get up from your desk and walk over lunch. Walk to talk to your colleagues instead of emailing or calling them. Park on the far side of the parking lot from your office building. Get up a little earlier and walk a bit before you leave for work. Take a walk after work.
Hope that helps.

LOL! I work a very sedentary job, too. I have to stay at my desk a lot so that I can answer the phone. About all I can do to increase steps is just get up and take a few steps now and then. When I take a bathroom break, I will march in place (sure glad no one can see me!), and I also park as far away as I can, usually only about half a block. I'm new here, so I'm looking forward to more ideas, also!

Just to clarify, I live in a small town, and my office is just a building in a residential district. No stairs, and only about 30 steps from front to back inside the building. I can only park about a half block away because of homeowners parking in front of their houses. I have a dog, but she's a miniature dachshund and her legs are only 4 inches long. I guess I need to get a bigger dog to walk! LOL! But, I'm loving my new Fitbit and can't wait to get extra steps in!

can you walk to work? or ride a bike? Also the dog still needs to walk...so 15 or 20 mins b4 work, followed by 15-20 mins after plus the same when u wake up and b4 bed and your dog will be happier and you will add a tons of steps..think at 15 mins each time thats an hour of walking for you and your dog...remember you don't have to do all your excersise at once you can break it up.
