How long does it take fitbit to get an accurate resting heart rate?

I've had my fitbit since before Christmas and the first day I put it on, the resting heart rate was 45, now it has been spiking up each day 50 - 55 and last night 58.

I've been getting back into my sport this week, we had just finished for two weeks at Christmas which is when I bought the fitbit so until this week I haven't been as active as I am any other time. And the first time I wore my fitbit was after weeks of pretty heavy sessions.

Does it take a while to get accurate, or was I just super chill on the first day I wore it?

Your resting heart rate can fluctuate, especially if you're a woman still receiving her monthly menstrual cycle.  My heart rate always spikes a bit before and during my period and then tapers back down to normal.  For example, my RHR can be at 57 and then jump to 63 or 64 during my cycle.

On my more active days, it's not usual for my RHR to be elevated more and if I'm lazy for a few days, then it will go back down.  So fluctuations in your RHR are normal.

@Kiwifoxes...I second what @Heather-S said.. your RHR will fluctuate over the slightest little thing.. do you have a cold, is it more cold, less cold, drier, more humid.. the list is long. not to mention, you probably enjoyed the holidays with food and drink which has a huge impact on HR, which impacts RHR. you want to look at it over time, not day to day. The trend is more important than in the moment.
