My work incentive is 7k for 60 days a qtr.
I have noticed I need 10k a day (and a healthy diet) to feel fit. Nothing beats it!
Curious - how many steps does it take for you to feel fit?

Personally, to feel like I've "actually done something" for the day, I need 18k-20k to feel "fit".
I tend to average 8k-10k before I even leave my office for the day. Weekends are harder though because even though I spend several hours at the park with my children, there isn't a lot of "stepping". (Sadly, pushing a swing for 30 minutes doesn't get you any steps lol)

For me it is between 7-10k. I have a very sedatary lifestyle, personally and professionally. I feel best when I hit 10k but 7k is my daily goal. I've learned to stop trying to keep up with the Jones' when it comes to fitness.

@lonerchick agreed completely. Everyone is different, and if you're coming from a very sedentary lifestyle, shooting for 20k steps is insane. On my best days, I RARELY get to 20k, and that's a LOT of walking/running.
Every week try to up your steps by 500. It's about slow progression.

I get about 4-5k steps in at the office, but I need about 12k to feel like I've done anything at all for the day. BUT I had a pretty active lifestyle before I settled into the office routine so I try to walk/run after getting home from work. An easy 30 minute walk/run around the block gets me another 4-5k steps. Supplement that with pick-up ball games at the park and I'm easily at 15-17k steps!
@PaleoCrossfit is right through. Everyone is different. If you're used to a relaxed routine, then 15-20k steps might be too much. But for me, that range is just right. Slow progression is the key, don't stress yourself so long as you're constantly improving!
