Hi, I recently have a stress fracture in my right foot. I know I am suppose to stay off it, but I have a wedding in September. When I got the dress I was a few lbs. lighter and gained it back. What could I do to loose a weight?

Eat less than you burn daily, by a small amount so it hopefully doesn't include muscle mass.

You got a gym to hit the weight machines that don't put pressure on the foot?

Circuit training

3-4 circuits using 12-15 reps with weight that is heavy for you.

Manually log it as Circuit Training.

While that won't allow you to eat as much as intense cardio would, it'll transform your whole body better.

And as long as you can adhere to the eating level, you'll lose weight because of the diet, never the exercise anyway.

I've had soreness and tightness in my left hip/ quad area since August last year. It was during marathon training just a bit of tightness in my hip and not too bad during or after marathon. I've been running on and off since but it's worse since running a half marathon race in March. I've hardly ran since. My groin area is very sore to walk then it will feel better so I will run only for it to hurt again. I've been using foam roller and stretching twice daily. My doctor says it the sartorius muscle. Do you have any advice on what I can do to get rid of this? How long should I rest? Tried two weeks of no cross training nothing but makes no difference

I'm happy right now just to maintain my gain. I can't walk right now while I wait to have surgery for my torn meniscus. I have my second opinion in a week, been in increasing pain for 2 years and if he agrees with the first opinion then off I go to surgery. It's so hard not being able to walk and lose weight.

Hello! I have been having a pain in the outer side of my left foot and wanted your opinion. I started working out June 15, 2015. I started having a pain in my foot that started out only when I would walk/stand to long. It's not unbearable but it is a pain. It stopped once i wasn't working out and went on vacation in august. I don't workout anymore since college has started again and haven't had much pain since. Well the last two weeks the pain has came back when standing at work. Now, even when i have my feet up there is a small throbbing pain. I finally went to the doctor and he's scheduled for a bone scn to check for fracture, but I always thought fractures were very painful, so I didn't see how I could have been walking on it for two-three months even though it was hurting. What's your opinion it could be?

I'm currently recovering from foot surgery and would love any suggestions to help rehab my foot/body. I had an acute fracture in the 5th metatarsal and had to have a screw put in bc it was proving to not heal on it's own. My doc thinks he'll start letting me put weight on it within a couple weeks, that'll make it a total of 3 months of not walking. I've lost most of the muscle mass in my calves and will probably be in the boot for at least another month or two. I have all the info for basic physical therapy but would love any tips, I have free weights, a workout ball and treadmill that use to be in heavy rotation during the winter. I've actually lost weight during this ordeal by cutting back dramatically on my caloric intake and I'd like to keep going while building lean muscle, thanks!

I'm 61 y.o. female, 130 lbs.  with osteoporises (sic).  will compression stockings help with my treadmill walks/ slow runs or some incline work?.  I usually workout 2-3 hours, broken up with 2/3 breaks most days.  I don't want shin splints but need this amount of time to get the cardio minutes my dr. wants for me. ( i have hereditary high cholesteral and had 20" worth of stents last year.  )  I do ice on most breaks and elevate but wonder if the stockings if worn during excercise help or hinder.  thanks for taking time to answer.

Hi, Im looking for some advice.... I'm 31, been lifting for a little over a year now, and my shouloders have always popped and creaked. But recently I have been experiencing pain in my left shoulder when I try to reach across to the right or lift my arm straight up to my side. I saw my doctor, he took x-rays and didnt see anything wrong with my joint, and said it's probably calcium buildup from a prior injry, but I dont remember ever hurting it before, even playing contact sports all through my childhood. I was looking to get a referral from him to see a P.T. but he didnt think it was neccesary.... any suggestions as to what my problem may be, and what I should do about it? Thanks!

@paso Sadly there may not be a response. The person offering this help is not active in the Group that was started and hasn't replied to a post for nearly 18 months.  Here is the Group that was started.

Reading your earlier post I would recommend you see your health Care professionals because I had to wear knee length compression stockings after my hip replacement to prevent thrombosis.

Sorry to hear about your foot injury.   Use a spin bike until your foot heals.

Hi,

I recently was out for a run when I felt my right calf start to pull and so I stopped.  When I tried to walk, I was in agony and struggled to limp the mile home.  I did the RICE treatment when I got back but my calf seems tender now, two weeks later and although my limp has gone there seems to be a tightness and I get the feeling that it will go again as soon as I try gentle exercise.  There was no bruising or swelling.  I drink plenty and do a gentle warm up before my runs.  This has happened before in the same calf but not sure whhat to do to avoid it happening again.  Are compression socks/sleeves any good.

Thanks for this post by the way!!!

Hi I am curious what you know about sciatica. I am still recovering from
it, mostly when trying to sleep but it's still there after a good fast
paced walk too. It has hindered my active life but I'm getting back on
track now.

Does it ever really go fully away?
Trying to make exercise a more important part of my lifestyle! The fitbit and the communities help keep me interested and motivated 🙂

I suffer from crazy shin splint pain. I think it shin slints what military doc said. It start with tighting and ache in the calf then the numbing starts in the toes, if I continue (which I do) eventualy the numbing will go all the way up to my knee. there were may days in my military life when i completed my PT test not being able to feel my legs.... forward to today and I walk only but the problem is still there. I wear calf compressions and still, stretch thoroughly and still. obvisouly if I walk at sighting pace I have no problem, but I'm trying to keep HR at cardio, since running is out of the question.

Wrong description of shin splints - which is what the name says - the shin, or front of the lower leg.

You got something different going on, so don't waste time looking up stuff on shin splints - with nerves going on, perhaps a compression issue in couple joints, foot could be due to tight achilles from tight calf, numbing on up could be from nerves coming from spine.

Usually those start at the spine and work their way down the leg though, not bottom up.

Hamstrings and glutes tight?

Can you touch toes while on floor legs straight?

If sitting in chair and an ankle crossed up to other knee, how tight are glutes when you lean forward and down?

I've had bouts of sciatica, and good stretching and movement going again, it's gone away.

Had friends with worse reasons for getting it, disc issues, and it left some numbness.

Both cases bouts have returned.

It depends on how long the nerves were in the damaged state numb - never good - and your genetics and ability to recover.

I was informed when I messaged this thread that the original author no
longer is involved.

I have no medical training but found good advice on line from Runners
magazine. Because of vasular disease I use compression stockings most of
the time and learned to lace my sneakers to accommodate my foot shape.

Also, I stepped my efforts way back and spent time very slowly building to
a cardio level. During this time I iced my legs when pain started plus
massaged legs after every workout. I still massage using coconut oil every
workout.

Trying too much too quickly (all of us over motivated etc,) doesn't payoff
in the long run.

Do check with a health professional if your problems persist.

Wishing you the BEST!

I am not the original author of this post. I am not a medical professional.

I know zero regarding sciatica except that it is very painful. I'm sorry
you're hurting.
Please see a professional and do research from reputable sources.
My best wishes for you.
Happy trails.
