@Chrissmith147it can be hard to build muscle in a deficit, however, if you're new to strength training it is possible. I have a couple of questions that would help with some answers:
How long did it take you to lose the 10 stone (a great achievement by the way)?
How many calories are you burning each day?
How many calories are you eating each day?
What type of physical activities are you currently doing?
Oh, and male or female, and age would help too.

Sigh... I hate guys (no offence) but your goal of building muscles will be easier.
If you're close to your goal weight I'd stick with your intake where it is. You should be able to build muscle in a moderate deficit and depending on your tracking of your food intake you might already be eating at maintenance.
It's been a while since I did any strength training, however, you need to lift as heavy as possible to start building those muscles. When I was doing higher reps (12-15) then it would be 2 sets, progression was to 8-10 reps/3 sets. Not saying to jack up the weights immediately, but... if you can lift 12 reps x 4 sets the weight might not be heavy enough. I should have asked the frequency of workouts, but you should also be working out 3-4 days at most per week.

There is more to building muscle than figuring out calories. You have to understand reps vs sets. heavy vs light. frequency and of course the composition of food. I find this guy to be helpful, although, full disclosure he is sarcastic and not for everyone. He does however offer really good guidance..
