I'm just trying to beat myself day to day

I was paralysed on my dominant side 3 years and 9 months ago, and I got so I was getting around 50K steps/day after which the next day I could only get around 40K.  The first 1K steps was more like falling around than walking.  My recuperative powers were diminished by my illness, so muscle mass increase was next to impossible; however, I did get small incremental increase that could only be detected over time with strict application of metrics.  I didn't do significance testing, but I could _feel_ the difference.  In that stage, my step count decreased, but I felt firm footfalls with muscle activity in the feet.  Then I got a nasty cold that made it difficult to breathe; that didn't stop me, but then came the fever and chills that left muscle weakness in their wake.  That nearly finished me; but I fought back and I got back to around 16-17K steps each day and I tried to continue it without exception.  Then I got a second round of fever and chills, but it seemed it had lost its advantage over me:  I wasn't winning, but I was making some kind of projects; The consistent steps were harder to make than the flat footed stomping, but I'm making consistent progress, and I feel stronger up until the point when I fatigue.  Now I'm just trying to beat myself every day.

Sorry for all your problems. But it sounds like you are doing good and improving on your steps
