The work week hustle habit really motivated me this year.First I started getting of the bus a couple of stops earlier, then I extended it to four stops earlier. Then I started walking extra stops on the return visit. Then I started a regular Thursday walk home.
I upped my daily target to 11 k steps but I've recently pulled it back to 10k because once I've gone over its lovely to see how much over Ive gone. Its weird but when my target is 10k I will nearly always get 11 or 12 but when its 11 I don't reach it as often?

Hi @SunsetRunner
Your post was moved to the Lifestyles forum area under the Get Moving category so more people will see it.
What a great idea to get those steps up by walking a bit more.
I've never changed my step goal from 10k, even when a cold or stomach bug has me down. It does remind me to keep going because I won't change the numbers.
Glad you shared this with us.

It a mind set.
I prefer my step goal to meet what I really do. I dont find exceeding by 200% motivating at all. But that's me.I have been in many challenges where people set their goals way lower than they do. They get 200% or more in challenges. Not motivating at all to me. To them maybe but I prefer to stay away from these types
Its your choice on what you do

I keep mine at 10K, but only because I have a desk job that can make it hard to reach 10K steps on some days. On the days I run or workout, it's easy, but other days it's a challenge because of my job. I do get up and move every hour, I walk on my lunch break, but there are days I still have to come home and do another 2K steps to reach 10K.
I hate missing a day of 10K steps, so keeping it at 10K keeps me consistent. Consistency is key.
Now, for 2019, I'm going to try to hit 2,019 miles walked/ran, so I'm probably going to have to up my step goal a bit to ensure that happens.

hey @SunsetRunner.. I actually keep upping my goal every so often. If I meet my current goal without too much stress for a while, I up it. This is my fourth year with my fitbit and I went from 10K to 14K. Most days I hit 18 without too much trouble. There are for sure days when I barely get to 10.. but I average out to 14K which makes me happy..I agree that it is all personal preference. Figure out what works most of the time for you and go with it.. Happy new year and happy goal making 🙂
