Is walking the best type of exercise for you?

ANSWERED

What do you think? Is walking the best type of exercise? 🤔 ... for you? 😉

Walking is a great way to improve or maintain your overall health. I've heard that several studies have consistently shown that significant health benefits accrue well below 10,000 steps per day. But I think that it depends on what is your personal goal. For some of us is too difficult to walk for 30 minutes at one time, but we can do regular small bouts (10 minutes) three times per day and gradually build up to longer sessions.

I've noticed that walking encourages my creativity 🤓. That's right, when you walk it allows your brain the opportunity to recover from fatigue, you rejuvenate your mind in walking which gives a restored state, perfect for letting creativity flow!

I personally enjoy walking during the afternoon when the sun is not too bright, it gives me time to relax and meditate about my day.

Favorite walking phrase: Don't think just get up and walk!

It's great to read everyone's views.

Walking for me has been the only activity I've been allowed to undertake while my body recovers from injuries.

It does get a little tedious however, I do have water views on one side where I get to see the fish jumping and multiple varieties of birds, very pleasant.

The benefits of walking are subtle physically but mentally makes a world of difference and instantly.

I will be honest though, I cannot wait for the all clear to be able to amp up my exercise and have slowly started the "walk one - jog one power pole"

Small steps but in the right direction, I do not want any further injuries.

Exercise/activity in any way, shape or form is better than doing absolutely nothing 😊

Before lockdown last year in the UK, I was going to the gym 2-3 times a week - including Spinning.  I then started alternating between "fitness walking" and online body combat through my local gym once lockdown happened - and became addicted to it;  So in the various lockdowns since / currently - most mornings I've been out for 1-2 hrs first thing before logging on for work - and find it theraputic / the fitbit heart rate shows better pbm for walking than online exercise.    I'll go back to the gym once they re-open (for the wattbike and spinning) but will also try to get walks in in between - instead of 5 days at the gym will mix more.

Best last year was 8 miles in just over 2 1/2 hrs - best this year so far is 6 miles in 1hr 50 so am aiming for longer - even if means leaving the house at 5.30 in the morning.

Plus Kylie and Dua Lipa on constant play helps with the feet moving.

Hey there, @philipbourton! Thank you for reaching out to the Community. I also find walking therapeutic, since I don't have the option to go to gym. So, yes I totally understand that you need to find other way to keep working out. I'm glad to see that you haven't lose the energy to achieve your fitness goals.
