So how did January go? Are you still holding strong on those New Year resolutions? Or have you completely forgotten about that? 🙂
Well, if your January goals were a little too ambitious, don’t give up. Just walk it back a bit. Instead of 6 days a week at the gym, commit to putting on your workout shoes for 3 mornings and walking a couple of miles, followed by some body weight exercises (you can still go to the gym, but if you’ve been missing, change the commitment somehow — less often, switch from morning to evening or vice versa — so it is easier to meet). Whatever it was you committed to in January, that has not successful, try doing half as much of it in February and see how that goes. (Of course, if you hit your goals in January, YAY YOU! Now keep practicing the goals you want as lifetime habits, and increase effort or time a bit). But above all, Just Say NO to Sedentary February.
How It Works
The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.
Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”
Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.
Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total
Picture Scavenger Hunt — 3 pictures
The theme of the photo scavenger hunt for Just Say NO to Sedentary February is to find the ‘odd duck;’ something out of place; someone oddly dressed; something a little ridiculous.
Odd Frog
Posting
Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week
Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

15K Steps/Day: --/29
600 Cal/Day Deficit: --/29
Squats 20 per Day: --/29
IF 4x/week: --/29
Daily Chair Stretches: --/29

I'm going to try changing up some of my behaviors in hopes of being more successful. Work should be slowing down soon since we are about two weeks into the semester, it's lighter out longer, and hopefully the temperature will warm up.
**Edit: Forgot to include my squat goal! Geez, I'm slipping in memory**
@WendyB I hear you about the not sedentary part. Even at my desk, I start jiggling my foot, tapping my fingers, or playing with my fidget cube. It's a hard task. I don't think I'd do well in jury duty. I get bored easily. They'd complain about my snoring! lol

I am just scaling back on a couple of my January goals because February is 2 days shorter than January. I also need to do get some other things done that don't involve many steps -- though they are not sedentary! -- like entertaining guests, sewing projects, painting, etc.
UPDATE: I’ve deleted the Blue (no alcohol) days here.
Good luck everybody!

Goals just a little different this month. Went from 6 to 6 hours 10 minutes for the sleep goal, and the mostly dry month is over. Still trying to lose a few pounds. Travel last week hurt my January efforts, but I’ll be back to my routines this month.

Just say NO to Sedentary February goals..............
Steps I'm leaving at 20k + per day
Floors will be the same at 25 per day, will just try harder to achieve this goal every day
Gym/yoga We belong to two Silver Sneakers gyms, one in our home town and one in the city. Our goal is to go to the gym every other day. That will mean 14 of 29 days.
The goal I'm adding, one that speaks to this months challenge, is active hours. I'll aim for 14 hours of activity per day. Fitbit asks for 250 steps per hour to mark an hour active. I've have been trying for 14 active hours per day for the past year & a half, and usually average around 12.5 active hours per day. In order to achieve my step goal of 20k steps per day, I try to get 2,000 steps per hour. That doesn't always happen, but it averages it out when I go on a 2 or 3 mile walk. (for example, yesterday in the big gym I got 5,000 steps on the track in just over an hour. Then I did free weights and walked one lap between sets. At home I use my exercise bike when reading or watching TV. Really helps the step counts. Of course, I'm retired so I have more free time to walk & exercise.
