Well, I'm "over the hump" as far as losing my planned weight over the 10 months. During that time, I had mostly been walking. Up until this week, I had been lately walking at around 3.5 miles per hour for about 3.5 miles over cross-country paths and asphalt back to our house.
Around Thursday of last week, I thought I'd slow jog more during my walk and went about 4.13 MPH average for the whole time (part walk and part jog).
This morning it was in the low 60's with a 9 MPH wind, so I decided to jog some more during the walk. I did a 4.15 MPH rate (2.03 miles) and did about 90% of the trip jogging. During lunch, it was around 78 degrees and winds cool and blowing at around 9 MPH. I jogged from the start almost all the way to the lake path. I started jogging once on the path and on and off again around the lake. Didn't look at my sports watch to see how I was doing, just concentrated on keeping going with the jogging.
When I got home, I found I had actually "picked up the pace" and completed 2.04 miles at 4.19 MPH (29:11 minutes).
For so long, I was deathly afraid my lame-"arse" drooping left foot would catch a rock in the path and send me sprawling, that I probably could have started going faster sooner. Better late than never.
Now that my body is over the shock of more exhertion, today, I'm going to keep "kickin' it up a notch..." as a famous chef would say...
I'm finding that my calories burned aren't that much less than when I walked 3.5 miles. I do see that my strides per minute have gone up considerably (from 129 walking to 155-162 jogging).
For those of you out there who may be on the fence about going faster, perhaps my tale will goad you into trying a jog for a bit? Try it...you'll like it...
