Anyone in need of a fitness accountability partner? I am new to fitbit (4th day) and believe I am serious about getting back into shape. The fitbit flex is very motivating and fun. I don't have much weight to lose (about 10 lbs.) but really need to get into--and stay--in a daily exercise routine. I have until the last several days, been horribly inconsistent for several years. My biggest challenge is finding the time and energy during the school year. I teach first grade, and I find myself not taking the time or finding the energy at the end of a long day to take time for myself to exercise consistently. I am a former marathon runner, but have given that up. My goal now is 30 to 60 minutes of daily brisk walking, swimming, or cycling. Maybe some light weights too.

Stephen,
Good luck with the partner - I can't access the forum that often, so I wouldn't be too reliable for support. I've gone from 225 to now 179 pounds thanks to Fitbit One. It prompts me when I'm good and bad and challenges me. 1 1/2 hour calisthenics every morning, 30-40 flights of stairs monday - friday (true flights...), 1 1/2 mile walk each workday during lunch and 6 miles walks on sat & sun. Jogging at night on Tues and Thursday and then Bowflex every other week on tues and thurs night. I have 4 more pounds to go to meet my goal..I've almost ERASED my diabetes!! Whew!!
Good Luck,
Mark

Hey Stephen1227, I would like to be your accountability partner! I'm new to FitBit and have been using it for about 8 days. I find myself trying to walk more by either parking the car further away from my work building or the store just so I can get my steps in! How about you? How are you trying to meet your goal of losing 10 pounds???

Hi JenFit,
Great! Is your name Jen? I like the idea of parking further away from work or the store. Those steps add up. I too have been making an effort to park further away from the store. When I was at Walmart last night, I made it a point to walk my cart a ways to the cart rack rather than just leave it like many do. Today I walked to the grocery store. It's only 2 blocks each way, but it helps. And it's so fun seeng those steps add up!
Regarding my goal, I have been walking a lot since I got my fitbit four days ago. Saturday, Sunday and Monday, I went for exercise walks of 3 or 4 miles. In addition, we have 3 dogs, so walking them twice each day helps too. We take them for two mile walks on average, though at a very casual pace. When I exercise walk, I try to pick up the pace. I also started lap swimming, with a goal of swimming for 30 minutes 2 or 3 times per week. I'm a REALLY slow swimmer 🙂 so I don't know how many calories I'm burning, but it sure is a nice activity to break up these hot summer days in Sacramento.
I also am learning to use the food log that you can get to through the dashboard. It's great for seeing if you're on track for creating a calorie deficit for the day. I have a goal of losing a pound a week, so that means a 500 calorie deficit. More importantly though, I want to improve my overall fitness and energy level with daily exercise rather than being so inconsistent. Have to keep up with my first graders, and the school year starts soon.
What about you? Looking forward to partnering with you! I'll figure out how to private message, and will send you my email address so it's easier to stay connected.
Stephen
