March Madness 2019 (last year - Don't Post)

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

It is the third month of 2019 and for college basketball fans the start of three weeks of hoop madness (beginning on March 19).  My Kansas Jayhawks are a little short-handed this year, but in a one-and-done 64+team tournament the luck of the draw often brings favorable matchups.  You just never know what will happen.

In the meantime, it is time to commit to another month of health goals.

How It Works

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

Picture Scavenger Hunt — 3 pictures

Last month the theme of the photo scavenger hunt was to find three ‘odd duck’ type-photos, and we had several, with one being pretty literal.  Thanks @WendyB .  Though I suppose the goose might take offense to being tagged as odd.

March will be the last month of winter for most of us (and summer from some of us).  It is usually a good excuse for a mini-vacation, or maybe a big vacation, so the task this month is to get out of the house (or hotel), walk about and find three pics that represent play or relaxation — maybe people, or animals — swimming, skiing, hiking, sunning; or fun places, or places like tourist attractions, playgrounds, circus tents, festivals … [edit] Thanks @SunsetRunner suggesting funny hats as a subcategory for  the play and relaxation pics.  Sadly, your suggested name of Madhatter March for this month came a bit to late, but I've updated my profile picture with a funny hat.

Posting

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

I was so close to hitting all my goals for the month, but I caught a head cold this last week that threw me off. I still managed to hit my minimum step goal, but the extra steps were just too much. Starting fresh tomorrow.

@WendyB - I've had a few days like that recently. Yesterday I didn't hit a single goal -- not even 5,000 steps. Sometimes that's just the way it goes. 😇

March Madness Goals - Day 31
12,000 steps: 18/15 days
20,000 steps: 5/5 days
25,000 steps: 2/1 day
Train w/weights: 14/15 days
40 jumping jacks: 23/20 days
Line Dance: 3/4 days
Eat a piece of fruit: 21/20 days
Scavenger Hunt Pics: 4/3 pics

This has been an odd week, with almost every second day me barely meeting even one goal. So, at month's end I am lacking 1 day each of line dance and working out with weights. All others met or exceeded. Yeah! 🎉

Yes, March has been an odd month.  I've had a headache nearly every day, but bad enough to stop me in my tracks just about every other day.  I know the way to have less headaches is walk more, drink more water, and get enough sleep.  But it can also be weather related, which is the issue this month has we have had such extremes as -18 to 50 degrees, sun, rain, wind, snow, you name it -we've probably had it, just not any severe storms yet.  (That's what I have to look forward to in April!)

I'm going to try to go out with a bang, and hope to hit a 9,000+ day today.  But it is pretty windy outside, so not sure it will happen.  I gotta good start this morning with sleeping in then a nice walk outside with the pups.

Did not finish the book and came up short on steps.  But I beat my sleep goal by several days (a first), and managed the daily pushup/pullup even with the the flu.  So that's pretty good.

You've walked 35,000 steps
With the Hiking Boot badge now under your belt, there's no mountain you can't climb and no goal you can't get. Keep it up!
