March Madness 2022 — Step Challenge and Photo Scavenger Hunt

We are well into 2022 now and the seasons will change this month. March 20 will be the Spring equinox in the Northern Hemisphere and the Autumn equinox in the Southern hemisphere. It’ll probably be a bit muddy, but there will be lots of change in the flora and fauna and critters to see … so get out and move your body, while you keep up with your monthly health goals.

How It Works

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

Picture Scavenger Hunt — 3 pictures

Since March will be the last month of winter for most of us (and summer from some of us), it’s a good time to get pics that show that change. A final snowfall, buds on trees, rabbits, birds and more. Just try to find three pics that somehow represent March.

Posting

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

I'm thinking the sleep and bike goals will be tough this month. Work and weather may get in the way, but I'm committed to getting to bed earlier and it is great to get out on the bike so here's to March Madness!

My present weight loss goal is to reach 55 kilos (121 lbs) before Easter. Then continue to lose down to 50 kilos and see if I’m happy there or try to lose more. Sticking with Intermittent Fasting (IF) is the key to my success.

@Baltoscott, if memory serves didn't you do a challenge with 9 other Scotts?  I don't have that many Frank Fitbit friends.

@Baltoscott Hopefully!  Yesterday, we were 15 below average temperatures, but I think we are finally moving up.  Days are getting longer, so it is getting a bit less depressing to be outside.

Which reminds me, there is a paper wasp nest I need to take care of before they wake...

Not scavenger hunt pics, but I always liked these signs.  I thought I was a little bit of an outlaw when I learned how to ride my unicycle at this tennis court two years ago.  But I'm a lawyer. And I thought about it. Since unicycles are NOT skateboards, or bicycles or motorcycles, and since I only trespass BEFORE its dark, in my legal opinion I think I am not a lawbreaker 🙂

@PureEvil -- Yes!  A workweek hustle with 10 Scotts. It was epic!  I think the one with 46 steps was a bodybuilder. 😂
