March Madness 2022 — Step Challenge and Photo Scavenger Hunt

We are well into 2022 now and the seasons will change this month. March 20 will be the Spring equinox in the Northern Hemisphere and the Autumn equinox in the Southern hemisphere. It’ll probably be a bit muddy, but there will be lots of change in the flora and fauna and critters to see … so get out and move your body, while you keep up with your monthly health goals.

How It Works

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

Picture Scavenger Hunt — 3 pictures

Since March will be the last month of winter for most of us (and summer from some of us), it’s a good time to get pics that show that change. A final snowfall, buds on trees, rabbits, birds and more. Just try to find three pics that somehow represent March.

March SnowMarch SnowMarch GrowMarch Grow

Posting

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

Spent a lot of time on my coach drinking beer and watching the basketball tournament over the past 4 days.  I always enjoy it, but I'll need to take some 'corrective action' on my diet to make up for it :-).  Found this lost glove memorial at one of my favorite city parks this weekend. Definitely a change of season pic.

Well, it's all gone downhill for myself.

Started the week strong, being above my average steps easy each day, even did a 5km run on Wednesday, which is the most I've ever done.

Then on Thursday I walked to the shop and back during my lunch break, about 15 minutes each way, and had to sit down, i was shattered and confused, assuming maybe I'd over done it the day before I just assumed I needed a rest day, but Friday I tested positive for Covid which now explains it.

It's probably ruined all the progress I've been making the last 3 months, as someone who's overweight, and was born with a Heart condition, having multiple operations i've never been the fittest person in the world, but I've gotta say, despite being triple jabbed, and the claims from Governments that Covid is gone, or is 'Just a cold' it's flattened me. I walked up stairs yesterday and felt like I'd run 5km again.

So obviously with that, I've missed my daily target, and once I recover I think my targets will be lowered, but I will say this, If I caught Covid 3/4 months ago before I started doing some exercise, and eating better I genuinely think I would have been at the very least hospitalised, so I'll say a thanks to people here who have helped motivate me to be more active because I'd certain it's made this less awful than it would have been.

Apologies for the depressing topic, and hope you are all doing well yourselves, now it's time to sleep again 😄

Sorry to hear COVID's got you knocked out but you made such an important observation about your health and how exercise likely has made a difference! I hope your recovery is swift.

Oh dear @ScottOnions. Also sorry to hear you’ve got Covid. Wishing you a speedy recovery and glad you haven’t had to go to the hospital. You’ll bounce back once you get your health and strength again. 😊
