March Madness 2022 — Step Challenge and Photo Scavenger Hunt

We are well into 2022 now and the seasons will change this month. March 20 will be the Spring equinox in the Northern Hemisphere and the Autumn equinox in the Southern hemisphere. It’ll probably be a bit muddy, but there will be lots of change in the flora and fauna and critters to see … so get out and move your body, while you keep up with your monthly health goals.

How It Works

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

Picture Scavenger Hunt — 3 pictures

Since March will be the last month of winter for most of us (and summer from some of us), it’s a good time to get pics that show that change. A final snowfall, buds on trees, rabbits, birds and more. Just try to find three pics that somehow represent March.

March SnowMarch SnowMarch GrowMarch Grow

Posting

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

@Jotex -- We don't have a lot of leaves on the trees yet, so the bluebird really stood out.  Pollen is up here too. I don't think we have really have by way of the Sahara, but I does feel like I've got a bucket full of sand in my eyes.  Maybe the cold wave that just came through will help my eyes a bit.

On to the different topic, are there any ideas for the April Challenge?  It is just a few days away.

Wow look at all that snow @Carrie71 ! Snow is on its way back to Switzerland, too. We often have snow on Easter but not for the Ides of March!?!

@Baltoscott every day it seems a new sort of tree or bush begins budding, and flowers pop up out of the ground. It’s supposed to rain beginning tomorrow and continue (alternating with snow) for a couple of weeks. The farmers are relieved. ☺️

Thinking of possible themes for April this morning.

Good ideas @Jotex Would "April Alterations" capture it?  There are going to be a lot of opportunity for pictures of changes in the landscape.  In the north, all of our changes relate to spring, but in the southern hemisphere it will be fall changes.  But in either case, you can also think of it as a month of new beginnings.  (I'm thinking that a lot of fitness journeys begin in January and peter out in February or March, so April is a good month for recommitment).

March Madness Good -- beat last year's bike milage, perfect on unicycle and pull up days and got some good scavenger hunt pics.

March Madness No So Good -- a little short on step, calisthenics, weight-lifting and sleep goals.  Not tracking weight on the chart, but TrendWeight has me +1 pound for the month.

Overall not too bad.  Onward to April Alternation!  And one more pic 🙂

@SteppingBooks - Glad you are back to your normal hours. I'm hopeful my office will onboard one and maybe both of the two people we are down in a few weeks, so I think I'll be getting back to normal soon too. The cold weather is on the way out and while I am sure we'll get plenty of April Showers, but it's going to be a good month the be outdoors.
