May Flowers — Step Challenge and Photo Scavenger Hunt

Well, April did bring a lot of showers, and a few flowers too.  But more flowers are on the way for May.  So this month’s photo theme will be at least three different kinds of flowers.                                           

How It Works

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

 

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

 

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

 

Suggested Posting Format    
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

 

Picture Scavenger Hunt — 3 pictures

As noted, the theme of the photo scavenger hunt is to find at least three different kinds of flowers (blooms) on your daily walks.  The more colors the better.

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week

 

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

I'm a bit off my normal day to day step goals, I slammed into a deer last week totaling my car, completely fine without injuries but the stress and working out details had me glued to my computer.  Then travelling with my daughter led to two 12 hour drive days, a nice long rest day for Mother's Day as I visited with my 80 yr old mom.  My new car should be road legal today, and no more travel plans till the end of the month, so I'm going to focus on fitness for a few days and get me and my dogs back to where we need it be.

My grass is also long enough to mow for the first time.  Now if only it can stay dry too!

@WendyB It may have been a blessing in disguise!  We were talking about how much (or how little) the vehicle was worth the previous day.  It had some issues and was needing to go to a mechanic for some minor repairs for the 3rd time in 6 months.  I was supposed to call a repair shop when they opened that morning.  So instead, the deer did more damage to the vehicle and I called the body shop.  It would have cost $3,500 to repair the damages, so I sold it to a junkyard for $200 and bought a newer, better vehicle for under $2,000.  So pretty much a win-win, minus the frustration and delays this caused.

 

I think it bothered me more that I forgot to put my FitBit back on when I got out of the shower today, then went for a walk, ran some errands and zig-zaged thru the yard picking up sticks with no steps counted!  Bummer...but at least I got the exercise for the health benefits!  🙂

Thanks @WendyB. Herbs can be tricky sometimes. Not too much or little water. Good soil. Sun but not too intense. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Goal Day 18 - Rocked it yesterday with wonderful weather, but today brings back more rain.

15,000 Steps - 1/1  Yesterday I rocked a super busy day with both a morning and evening hike with errands and yard work in the middle.  Total steps 16,614 (7.25 Miles) for an all time HIGH!

Things are finally starting to bloom here, especially with all the rain.  But still not very many flowers to photograph as of yet.
