May Flowers — Step Challenge and Photo Scavenger Hunt

Well, April did bring a lot of showers, and a few flowers too.  But more flowers are on the way for May.  So this month’s photo theme will be at least three different kinds of flowers.                                           

How It Works

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

 

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

 

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

 

Suggested Posting Format    
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

 

Picture Scavenger Hunt — 3 pictures

As noted, the theme of the photo scavenger hunt is to find at least three different kinds of flowers (blooms) on your daily walks.  The more colors the better.

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week

 

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

I hope this is ok @Baltoscott  But I need to reduce my steps in mid term. I'm having a problem with my Leg and I really think trying to get to 13K is hurting it more. So I'm dropping it down to 10K. My Leg is more important than steps

That makes a lot of sense @WendyB.  I've been having a similar issue with my right knee.  Think I sprained it doing leg curls in the gym, but the pain really sort of started last week which was a week off from the gym.  A little better now, but I'm trying to get my 'steps' more on the bike this week as walking seems to make it worse.  Also taking a second week off from weights, though I'll still go to the gym to do a body-weight routine.

Needed to take a second rest week from weight lifting, so I'm substituting in some long bike rides this week -- got two of those this past weekend.  The longer one was a 45 mile ride that included a couple of beers.  🙂

7650 Steps - 12/22 (Two more rain days slowed me down again, but hitting my goal on any days I can get outside!)

10,000 Steps - 2/5 (Tomorrow I hope to add one more to this!)

15,000 Steps - 1/1  

Active 6+ Hours a Day - 15/22 

Sleep 7+ Hours a Day - 11/22

Peak Heart Rate 15+ Minutes a Day - 9/20  (I'm hitting 10-12 minutes for this goal most days, just slightly falling short.  But it's a work in progress, I'll get there!)

@Jotex If I road my bike a mile, I wouldn't be able to sit down the next several days!  I haven't been on it for 2 years.  Rode a stationary bike at the gym last year, but that's as far as I got.  Maybe I need to add drinking to this type of exercise so I am more willing to do it!  🙂

This is the closest thing to flowers, that I have growing in our 10 acre field.  In another month, you won't even be able to see the shepherd laying there!  This hill is awesome for getting steps and floors in at the same time.

@BMANintheUP  LOL in adding drinking to the stationary bike. It can be boring. That's why I watch TV while I'm on it.  I have to do 40 minutes a day for therapy and I can only last 20 minutes at a time.

Cute picture @WendyB . I also watch TV while on my treadmill, but no beer (weird allergy), so I drink homemade decaf non-sweetened iced tea. 😇 But I might enjoy a nice glass of wine afterwards.
