I just did my first “morning” workout. I usually workout at like 10:30am, after I’ve woken up, had coffee, eaten/digested, etc. Due to a schedule change, I’m attempting to workout at 8 and oh my gosh, I felt exhausted. I had coffee and some oatmeal & 1/2 banana, waited about a half an hour, then did my workout but felt horrible. My oatmeal felt like it was a rock in my stomach and my heart rate was SO high. I did a Barre class and it jumped all the way to 174 - a heart rate I have only when I run. I feel like it’s because it was much earlier and my body hadn’t “woken up.”
has anyone else experienced this? I don’t think I’m cut out for the morning workout and need to stick to later in the day. I just feel terrible when I usually feel great 🥴🤢

Usually takes longer to digest food than that, and that type food even more.
But increased HR from attempt sounds about right.
Though I'd be curious if the reading was inflated but if you manually did HR it would be lower than 174.
If the timing is just better in general being earlier workout - might experiment with different foods - or do it fasted.
Doesn't sound super intense of a workout that it would cause much of a problem.
Might take a week to get body used to it.
Liver glycogen stores has enough to feed brain for about 24 hrs. Muscles stores can only be used by muscles.
When do you eat dinner prior night, and how active after dinner?
May need a better warmup too that you normally accomplish by just having a couple hours of moving around prior to workout.

Excellent points Heybales. I would also be curious if you had a good nights rest, what you ate the night before (for example did you have a healthy meal, something you are accustom to eating, or ate outside of your normal habits), did you consume alcohol, where you well hydrated. Before righting off exercising at 8am, you might try it a few more times, and pay attention to all the items listed above, and see how you feel.

Hmm, I am actually thinking the night before may have impacted your morning workout than the actual morning. I know Monday workouts no matter what time they happen are super hard for me because of the weekend. I would also try it again and not write it off after one time. Skip breakfast. Drink a big glass of water and workout. Get a shower and then eat. I think you will find that you feel pretty great after. If not, try eating a half a banana with the water and eat the rest after. If still terrible, then throw in the towel 🙂
