Morton's neuroma pain

I think I may have a Morton's neuroma. It feels like a marble has been taped to the ball of my foot.I started some interval running recently. I have been icing it and resting. I went to the chiropractor today and had it adjusted and he used a TENS unit. It feels some better this afternoon. Has anyone had problems like this? Not sure whether to walk through it or give it a couple of rest days. I am opting for rest at this point but it is making me crazy.

So that's what is called! I have had this off and on for several years. The only thing I have done is avoid certain shoes that increase the pressure on that spot. I can't help you much but you have helped me. Thank you.

I'm wondering in the problem ever resolved itself for you?  I have started to have this pain.  Also, sometimes when I'm bare foot, a stab of pain shoots up my leg from that spot and effectively hobbles me.  Did you end up needing further treatment or did it go away?

Theresab!

Suffered with this for a Few Years on and Off.

Good News: its manageable 🙂

Start laying off the running and switch to swimming cycling rowing (i know i love running too!)

taper runs to 10 min walks on high incline ....and in about 30 days try running once a week again

point is give it time to heal and gradually incorporate running back into it

Treatments worked for me: 1) ice bottle from freezer roll under ball of foot (no more 8 min) elevate

Please get a good pair of Orthotics too from your Chiro!

Bottom Line: switching up my cardio to heal my foot + icing daily really helped

good luck and get well soon!

I iced mine several times a day, tried to stay off of it. I used a tens machine and took advil. After several weeks it improved and now almost never flares up. I occasionally have a little bit of pain build up and I just put the tens unit on it again. It is much better.

Refridgerated golf ball rolled under my foot on that spot, applying as much pressure as tolerable.

Teresa, what sort of TENS unit are you using?  I bought a cheap one at the drug store and like it, but am limited in its use.  I've been researching more comprehensive units for shoulder pain and foot pain, but don't really have a clue.  I moved a year ago and don't yet have a chiropractor in the new location, though I don't have a problem contacting my previous chiropractor, I guess.  Thanks!

Theresab,

Pain is a warning from our body to stop doing something. Whether it's Morton's neuroma or some other problem, the answer is the same. Complete rest if necessary to stop the pain. If icing or Advil relieves the pain, that's a good thing, but don't use that as an excuse to go walking. Wait until the pain is gone without treatment.

Foot and knee problems can become chronic and lead to expensive operations if you walk through pain. I've found if I take a day off at the first sign of a new pain and then reduce my mileage for a few days if the pain is gone, the pain disappears and never comes back.

@Theresab YES, been fighting w/neuroma for many months. Found video on YouTube to put a special pad right behind ball of feet which helped more than anything. Since your post is from 2014, I am stopping here for response but maybe we can become best friends:)

Videos on YouTube helped find relief more than any doctor, ended up finding solesupports.com there to. I'm in Indy, traveled to Nashville Tennessee for a business meeting but found a doctor therehat had that product. Sunk both my feet in a box of foam, sent in and new orthotics came couple weeks later. Has "heuroma pad" behind balls of feet to help stead metatarsal bones apart and away from neuroma.

@@Pink pink  sole supports.com, which may or may not be covered by insurance. Mine wasn't $450 but are leather and last 4-5 years. Also since wanting a few pair, got other supports and made my own modeled after these.

I realize this thread is 4 yrs. old but I'm wondering if anybody else has information on Morton's Neuroma? I've been in pain for the last week and have stopped walking and started elevating my foot during the day. I was walking for about 75 minutes every morning, on asphalt (the street) up and down hills, walking fast enough to keep my h.r. in the fat burning zone with about 15 minutes in the aerobic zone and sometimes a little with a peaked h.r. It's really frustrating. I was fitted with good shoes ( Brook's Trace) they have a wide toe box, it's probably due to age (I'm 67) and being overweight as well as walking on the street. Thanks and Happy Holidays.
