Did you mean:

Mountain Biking

Well, the temperature in Salt Lake City is 55 degrees.  It is suppose to be 60 by the weekend.  I have dusted off my bike and got out the riding gear.  I am READY to head out.

Are there any other Mountain Bikers or Bikers in general?  Would love to hear from you about your workouts and the type of riding you do.

I am 50 years old, and am trying to get myself fit and back in shape for Mountain Bike Racing.  I did this when I was younger, but have the itch to get back into it.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Jeff

I'm similar vintage!  I used to ride a lot on local roads, but had on 'near miss' too many when I was on my bike.  Now I mostly ride indoors (spin classes in the gym, or on a trainer at home) and go cycling when I'm on vacation.  Was in Ecuador last year, thinking of New Zealand this year.

Awesome places to ride.  I try to stay off roads to avoid become road kill.

I ride on bike paths to avoid the crazy drivers. I have been run off the road a few times, and did not enjoy the experience. Don't mountain bike, too hard on the knees. But it looks fun.

Well, you've certainly go better weather than in the UK ! I am a very keen Mountain Biker, but due to the kind of trails I ride now have switched from a Full Suspension Cannondale to Hardtail Genesis. It works better for me, so I suppose my first bit of advice is have the right bike set up with the right geometry.

I've also added a Cadence Sensor (like I have on my road bike) as I ride off road with Shimano SPD. Although you obviously are dealing with a whole different type of terrain and hence a lot less consistent cadence I've found it helps me to really train to make full use of the pedal rotation, both on the 'up and the down stroke'.

I started off with a 25 mile mixed terrain ride with some flat and some big hills. And am adding about 5 miles a week to my weekend ride. I used to do a 70 miler every Sunday so am building back to that. Then I guess goal setting is good - 100 mile rides are the next challenge, also with trying to keep as much off road as possible.

As always, keep hydrated ... and carry a banana ! 😉 Enjoy your rides.
