Need to improve my mile time!

Hi. My current mile time is 9 minutes and 2 seconds. However, I really need to shave about a minute of that time by July-ish. Any advice?

Keep building your aerobic base.

 

Meaning if that time is obtained now and wheezing the whole time, you need to slow down, in order to speed up.

 

Is the race only 1 mile?

It is not a race, just something I need to do. But yes, i guess it could count as a race.

Make sure to include hill work and intervals into your weekly routine. Plus, slowing extend your long runs; running at a very moderate pace. It will help with your efficiency.
