New Year with a bang

ANSWERED

I got my 65k badge on Monday. To me it's a big deal since usually I would be curing hangover still. I got my fit bit in September and I have been pushing myself to get in shape, be fit. It feels good to start a new year feeling motivated and I think I replaced one addiction for another. But I love it. My goal this year is to hit 100k by summer or fall. What's yours? Good luck.

I don't think most folks find such daily numbers even remotely reasonable; in fact, some folks would probably suggest your step counts are inflated due to some form of cheating.  Think about it, if you *really* walked 65,000 steps in a single day you would have walked somewhere between 30 and 35 miles, and had you run that many steps you would have crossed the 40-mile mark.

To put the above in perspective, in October and November I participated in a fitness challenge at work and ran 675 miles in those two months; my highest day was only about 42,000 steps.

That's not cool calling me cheating. 4.5 hours on a tread mill with 2 visits to the gym. Over 2 hours walking with my wife in Franklin mills mall in Philly.  Ran/walked over a  mile from a store to our house. To finish I walked/ paced my living room back and forth for another 2.5 hours with a total of 65100 steps. 530 active minutes. I started 630 am and was done by 930 pm. Over 34 miles on my fitbit. A week earlier I got a 60k badge so please do not tell me I was cheating. That is the last thing I would ever do.

I don't understand why this is so hard to believe and why on earth would i forgo integrity and honesty to post something like that. This was a real challenge to me yes. I got a huge blister on my right toe but like I mentioned before about replacing one addiction for another once I go for it I go for it.

I don't  believe I called you a cheater; what I said was some folks would consider what you did as cheating; just warning you about some potential backlash.

Some people have a life other than walking.....   Was the badge worth it?

Well I haven't worked since late November so what else there is to do? Looking for a job, got few more lbs to drop. Been working delivering packages for Amazon in Philly so I'm very used to walking all day and i guess I wanted to try myself.

And Shipo there might as well be some steps inflation here and there. That is Definately expected. I am not saying I did 34 miles in total. I'm saying my fit bit counted that much. All I am sure about is my steps.

@Gtkozik,

Personally, I think however the steps got logged on your Fitbit is fine for your personal stats. I'm excluding obvious cheating, which I don't think you did.

It would help to know some history behind @shipo's post. Last May, there was a long discussion about what counts as steps for the purpose of activity groups and challenges. The two sides were "anything goes" and "a step propels your **ahem** down the road." In other words, walking or running.

I adhere to the second definition for activity groups. I don't mind if people use a treadmill.  In challenges, ask the creater of the challenge before it starts.

Everything was walking. No spepping in place. Much on treadmill. Much on decline. All day some form of walking with obvious breaks for food and such. Started around 6 30 am to around 930 pm. O and went to mall for couple hours so some steps were probably not full steps. Thanks for response.

This helps shine some light on things.  Our parent-company did a couple of company-wide contests, (which is 100s of thousands of people), and the top teams consisted of individuals getting 90k-100k steps per day.  I could not fathom how they were getting that many steps in.  Perhaps they were doing something similar to what you are doing...perhaps they have a treadmill desk & go to the gym more than one time a day.

I actually don't have a new years resolution this year.I did think about it,but never went back to thinking about it. I feel like I've almost completed everything I could do.  I have done a full marathon already. I have done several half marathons and have beat my best time.   This past year in 2016, I decided to do the Cal Running Series and did 4 half marathons. That was tough...but I completed that.   My friend suggested to me to do an ultra marathon,but I am thinking it might be out of my league. It was hard to train for a full marathon....i can't imagen it doing it for an ultra
